The Hawkeye Group, Inc. company history timeline

1966

Since Hawkeye opened its doors in 1966, it has focused on meeting the needs of the community, providing quality, affordable training for learners at all stages of life.

1967

Frank Piersol, who was hired in 1967, oversaw the transition of the direction of the Hawkeye Marching Band from the responsibility of the Director of Bands to that of the Associate Director.

1968

Thomas L. Davis, who had served as assistant to both Ebbs and Piersol, took over in 1968 and utilized his talent for composition to create fresh musical arrangements for the HMB. He also supervised the reintroduction of women back into the marching band for the first time in almost thirty years.

1972

The baseball team has reached the College World Series once, in 1972.

1991

David Woodley, an alumnus of the program, was hired as Interim Director in 1991.

1993

However, his term would be short-lived when David Henning was hired as Director in 1993.

1999

Early 1999: Research begins at Roke Manor Research Ltd., a company with over thirty years of vision processing expertise.

2001

The system was first used during a Test match between Pakistan and England at Lord’s Cricket Ground, on 21 April 2001.

Iowa's softball team has played in the Women's College World Series on four occasions, most recently in 2001.

2002

February 2002 : Hawk-Eye is first used in tennis as part of the BBC’s Davis Cup coverage.

2003

January 2003 : Hawk-Eye makes its Grand Slam television debut at the Australian Open.

2004

September 2004 : Jennifer Capriati’s 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 quarterfinal victory over Serena Williams at the United States Open thrusts tennis line-calling into the media spotlight.

2005

October 2005 : Hawk-Eye passes stringent ITF electronic line calling testing, at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.

2006

March 2006 : Hawk-Eye is used officially at tennis’s Nasdaq-100 Open in Miami, the first Tour event to adopt the system.

2008

August 2008 : Hawk-Eye becomes involved in the Olympic movement for the very first time, with the tennis systems used on the two show courts at the Beijing Games.

2010

November 2010 : Fox Sports Australia utilise Hawk-Eye tracking technology for their domestic cricket coverage.

2011

March 2011: Hawk-Eye is bought by Sony as a flagship brand within its sports business.

August 2011 : The US Open uses the electronic line calling system across four courts.

2012

July 2012 : Two tennis line-calling systems are used at the London 2012 Olympic Games

July 2012 : The football system qualifies as an official FIFA licensee of goal-line technology.

Both Hawkeyes were featured in writer Matt Fraction and artist Daniel Aja’s Hawkeye, which debuted in August 2012.

2013

June 2013 : The GAA officiating system is used for the first time at Croke Park, Dublin.

HSG got it’s start in 2013 as a home renovation company and quickly grew into a commercial custom design company.

2015

Hawkeye offers Intercollegiate athletics with Sports Shooting starting fall 2015.

2016

Hawkeye is named a 2016 United States Department of Education Green Ribbon School for its comprehensive approach to sustainability.

2018

After a national search in the spring of 2018, Doctor Eric W. Bush, was chosen as the next Associate Director of Bands and the 13th Director of the Hawkeye Marching Band.

2021
