This job will focus on the fixed asset accounting and reporting for the Filtration and Separation (FSD) division within the BioProduction Group (BPG) at Thermo Fisher Scientific. Formed after a recent acquisition, this division produces approximately $1 billion in annual revenue and supports Thermo Fisher Scientific's growth and innovation strategies.
This role is focused on accounting, reporting, and oversight of fixed assets within the FSD business. You will work with global cross-functional teams to develop the capital approval process. You will also develop monitoring and reporting frameworks and outline efficient capitalization procedures. All activities contribute to process enhancement and ongoing improvement in a complex international setting.
Primary Responsibilities
* Provide technical guidance to accounting teams and financial partners on fixed asset qualifications, capitalization criteria, and useful life determinations.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of accounting standards relevant to fixed assets (e.g., ASC 360, IAS 16).
* Review and approve capital acquisition requests from business partners, ensuring adherence to approval limits and capital policies.
* Monitor and reconcile construction-in-progress (CIP) accounts, ensuring timely capitalization of completed assets.
* Coordinate and review depreciation accruals, impairment assessments, and adjustments for delayed capitalizations.
* Partner with FP&A, Operations, and Project Management teams to review project spending, validate CIP balances, and ensure accuracy of capitalized costs.
* Lead the improvement of current fixed asset accounting and reporting processes.
* Assist with property tax reporting and other various compliance reporting.
* Ensure adherence to internal control requirements under SOX and Thermo Fisher's global accounting policies.
* Design the physical inventory counts and the labeling of fixed assets.
* Support internal and external audits by providing detailed schedules and documentation.

* Experience operating within a large ERP system environment (e.g., Oracle, SAP, NetSuite).
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in Minnesota is $93,800.00-$140,675.00.

Position Summary

A successful Accountant will accomplish the following:
Within 90 Days:
Train on the bimonthly payroll processing to ensure a smooth payroll and help employees with any questions regarding pay
Train on fixed assets to close it each month and prepare for property tax return in the spring
Assist the accounting manager and sr. accountant in completing the monthly close reconciliations
Participate enthusiastically in the new employee development program
Within 1 Year:
Make sure payroll is successfully executed twice a month and are available for employee's related questions
Participate in a busy audit and tax season from January through April including year-end reconciliation processes as determined by your manager
Help the team drive the month end close on time
Assist managers with international operations, audit and tax
Learn the financial systems used at Wavetronix and help improve them
Complete ad hoc projects on time including internal and external analysis and reporting
Beyond 1 Year:
Take on more areas of the month end close
Support the Accounting team as the company grows

What You Will Be Doing:
As our Accountant, you will play an important role in the growth of our company. You will support the Finance team with transactional processing, journal entry preparation, balance sheet account reconciliations, variance analyses, and the preparation of deliverables for the financial statement audit. You will also assist with the implementation of internal controls. You will report to the Controller and work at our Everett, WA office.
* Support accounting period close for areas of functional responsibility which may include preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations and variance analysis
* Analyze fluctuations and trends in financial statement line items and provide insightful commentary
* Assist with the preparation of the monthly financial reporting package and financial statement disclosures
* Support external audit requirements related to specific assigned areas
* Proactively review current procedures and seek ways to improve processes to ensure timely monthly close, accuracy of accounting entries, and operational efficiency
* Perform technical accounting research and draft technical accounting memos
* Assist in designing, implementing, maintaining and monitoring accounting policies and procedures; and assist in internal control and process documentation
* Manage assigned projects and collaborate with cross-functional team members in delivering high quality, decision ready information to our business partners
Required Skills:
* Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field or equivalent experience
* 5+ years of accounting experience preferably with a background in manufacturing, energy, or technology industries
* Comfortable working with individuals at all organizational levels

The Accountant will report directly to the Senior Manager, Global consolidation and Corporate Accounting and will play a key role within the Controllership and broader finance organization. This position is responsible for supporting Corporate Accounting and Global Consolidation team and process on a monthly and quarterly basis to deliver accurate and timely financial statements of a $5+ billion publicly traded organization.
What you'll be doing:
Assist and coordinates the monthly, quarterly, and annual close and worldwide consolidation of actuals, including the submission of monthly financial information and reporting schedules from the business units.
Assist the consolidation procedures, including investigation and clearing of inter-company balances as needed.
Assist and support the OneStream system Cash flow procedures timely and complete Corporate cash flow workflow.
Assist in compilation of consolidated balance sheets, income statements, statements of cash flows, and other executive reporting schedules.
Aid with the review of the 10-Q/10-K, and review of audit committee materials.
Assist of the preparation of the periodic financial presentations for the CFO (earnings conference calls, Board meetings, internal management presentations, etc.).
Assist Corporate Balance sheet flux analysis quarterly.
Assist with system transformation, and process improvement projects as sponsored by the Chief Accounting Officer and Corporate Controller.
Assist with governance over organizational structure and general ledger account changes.
Prepare and manage quarterly Government Surveys
Assist with Quarterly/ Annual Audit deliverables.
Assist and prepare with LIFO and Proft reserve accrual analysis.
Provide ad hoc Financial analysis and reporting as needed.
This position can be remote, hybrid or onsite. Our preference is for onsite at our Corporate Headquarters in beautiful Hartsville, SC and may also be considered for our Charlotte, NC office. We are close to exciting destinations (Myrtle Beach, SC Charleston, SC, Columbia, SC and Charlotte, NC).

Strong systems skills preferred (e.g., OneStream, Oracle Finance, supporting data warehouse systems, etc.).
Keen eye for accuracy and a solid understanding of accounting principles and a desire to contribute to a dynamic team.
Proficiency with excel and other Microsoft Office products with ability to retrieve data, manipulate such data and create useful analytical information.
Experience performing complex consolidations of global businesses preferred and strong GAAP understanding.
