Description/Comment:

Identifies hazardous workplace conditions , revising work procedures, and training or requiring use of protective clothing and personal protective equipment.
Takes effective steps to ensure that workplace conditions comply with applicable federal and state occupational safety and health standard provisions of any labor agreement, ensuring that all required records are prepared and maintained.
Participates in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections and in any procedures that may follow a citation. Investigates, prepares, and forwards as required reports on injuries and fatalities. Conducts safe work procedures training courses.

Special Requirement:

Daily Fire Prevention and Housekeeping Inspections. In this role, you will be called upon to conduct daily walkthroughs supervising many junior contractor and sub-contractor personnel providing them with consultative support in the interpretation of the many technical aspects of the safety and environmental specialties.
The daily walkthroughs generate information that needs to be entered into proprietary quality management database for data capture that supports data driven trend analysis.
Supports the proper handling and profiling of contractor generated hazardous waste. This includes supporting the program with obtaining hazardous waste containers, berms and labels from our waste handler.
Superior communications skills are required in dealing with sub-contractors on, the proper handling of generated hazardous, and non-hazardous recyclable waste adhering to best management practices near waterfront operations.

Prefer candidates have the following experience:

Familiarity with NAVSEA Standard Items is required to facilitate implementing those regulations as they relate to Navy shipboard maintenance and maintaining compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, ordinances, and regulations.
OSHA Training Institute (OTI) courses or NAVSEA approved equivalents; Occupational Safety and Health Standards for Maritime Industry; Electrical Standards; Fall Protection, and; OSHA Guide to Industrial Hygiene.
Previous experience and knowledge of Aircraft Carriers is a strong plus.

Here's the Gist:
This position functions as a member of Wolfspeed's Environmental Health & Safety Team. The EH&S Team is charged with regulatory compliance assurance while partnering with Wolfspeed's Business Units at the North Carolina facilities in support of achieving world class performance.

Specifically, this position is responsible for the day-to-day management of hazardous and non-hazardous waste storage areas including the performance of material handling, routine inspections, and maintenance of accurate records.

The Day-to-Day:
Safely conduct all activities and use prescribed PPE in prescribed manner Follow all Wolfspeed safety policies including those specified in documented activities.Maintain waste cages and tanks in full compliance with applicable regulations. Inspection ready every day. Includes the following: complete and correct labels, container management, proper storage and segregation, housekeeping in cages and secondary containments to be clean with no debris, conduct rainwater tests and removed from secondary containments within regulatory specified time frame and maintain current waste inventory of all containerized waste.Obtain and maintain working knowledge of commonly generated waste streams and corresponding outbound waste profiles.Obtain necessary information to identify waste, waste generating process from internal generators then either assign to existing outbound waste profile or work with Environmental Manager or Engineer(s) to complete and submit new outbound profile.Work together with other environmental technicians to schedule outbound waste shipments to maintain waste inventory in compliance with applicable regulations, then load waste shipments with vendors as scheduled and sign manifests Maintain records of shipments, including LDRs., track returned manifest copies to maintain regulatory compliance, accurately enter shipment information to applicable spreadsheet or database in timely manner.Perform and document quarterly audits, weekly/daily hazardous waste inspections with zero error rate.Work with Manufacturing, R&D, EH&S, and Facilities Department personnel to correct deficiencies and maintain compliance with NCDEQ regulations Gather specified data and maintain accurate records for waste accumulation and shipments to assure compliance with regulations Coordinate various waste and wastewater-sampling collection activities as requested Maintain environmental sampling equipment, calibrations, and recordkeeping in working order and in accordance with applicable regulations.Assist the EH&S Environmental Manager and EH&S Environmental Engineers in everyday activities Prepare and secure waste areas for extreme climate conditions such as hurricanes, ice storms, snow storms.
