In the role of Intern Environmental, we'll count on you to:

* Work on diverse remedial engineering projects that will range from general field support during investigation/construction and soil/groundwater/air sampling to technical work that requires strong communication skills

* Assist junior engineers in environmental remediation projects involving feasibility studies, pre-design investigation, remedial design, remedial action, and post construction activities.

* Interpret data (chemical analyses and historical investigation data) and summarize it in tables, charts, and maps.
* Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
* 2.5 years completed toward a degree with a minimum of 3.0 GPA
* Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to the field of study/industry

Role Description:
We are seeking a Climate Adaptation Intern to join the Water Management Team in New York City for Spring 2026, starting in January. This position will be hired through CSM Engineering, a subconsultant to Arcadis, and will work directly with Arcadis staff who sit within the Water Management Practice of the Global Resiliency Group.
The Water Management Practice's goal is to protect our natural environment and water resources while powering our world for future generations. Around the world, we're feeling the effects of climate change, rapid urbanization, and loss of biodiversity. The rate at which we're seeing large-scale, unforeseen events such as floods and wildfires is becoming more frequent.
Role Accountabilities:
In the role of a Climate Adaptation Intern, you will take on a diverse range of tasks aimed at supporting planning and engineering studies for both existing and expanding clientele. This involves addressing challenges related to coastal protection, risk assessment, stormwater management, groundwater, benefit-cost analysis, environmental impact, funding, grant management, and social impact analysis, among other resilience needs. Collaboration is key, as you will work closely with integrated, multi-disciplinary teams comprising of planners, engineers, scientists, designers, and other professionals. This role will meet 2-3 days per week in-office for up to 20 hours per week during the semester and up to 40 hours per week during the summer.
As a Climate Adaptation Intern, your duties will include the following:
Conduct research and assist in drafting clear, well-organized report sections to support coastal resilience flood project implementation and environmental review requirements.
Simultaneous involvement in various project components, requiring your adeptness at multitasking.
Developing maps and other graphic materials for inclusion in project presentations, reports, and community engagement materials.
Supporting public engagement, including tracking and organizing comments received.
We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, highly organized individual with robust research, writing, and communication skills and a strong interest in supporting urban and coastal climate adaptation initiatives, including funding and implementation. The ideal candidate excels in both written and verbal communication, brings strong research capabilities, and demonstrates the ability to organize and present data effectively using tools such as Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Strong experience and comfort working in MS Office Software is essential for success in this role. Additionally, this position requires someone adept at managing multiple tasks simultaneously while collaborating seamlessly with multidisciplinary teams to drive successful project outcomes.
You will support a growing base of projects related to risk assessment, climate adaptation, resilience planning, policy, project development, feasibility studies, and engineering design, as well as project funding and implementation with the support of one of the industry's leading technical and professional staffs.
Periodic travel to New York City client sites, public meetings, or internal workshops is expected, further enriching your experience.

Role Accountabilities:

Required Qualifications:

Primary Responsibilities
* Function as an Environmental Scientist for natural resources field studies and environmental permitting.
* Perform wetland delineations, ecological and/or biological field surveys and assessments, data interpretation, analysis, and report writing with oversight from senior staff. Report writing would include wetland and watercourse delineation reports, biological assessments, monitoring reports, mitigation plans and related documents.
* Assist in the development of Clean Water Act 404/401 applications, NEPA environmental assessments or impact statements, natural resources and environmental permitting strategies and report preparation.
* Assist in the development of NJDEP Division of Land Resources Protection permit applications (Waterfront Development, CAFRA, Flood Hazard Area, Coastal and Freshwater Wetlands).

As a Program Manager, you will lead program management within our Advisory Business Unit, working directly with a global key program, servicing a major banking client, on the delivery of cloud based Building Management Systems solutions
Role accountabilities:
The Program Manager will be responsible for delivering complex technology projects, handling global stakeholders within different reporting structures and managing multiple vendors.
You are well-versed in digital project management tools, real-time monitoring systems, and data-driven decision-making. With expert knowledge of program management methodologies, you demonstrate superior leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills. Experience working with public sector clients or major municipal infrastructure projects is highly preferred. This leader excels in building consensus among diverse stakeholders-including regulatory agencies, municipal partners, elected officials, and community groups-and is adept at translating technical information for varied audiences. Proven success in managing large multidisciplinary teams and significant program budgets rounds out their profile.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Relevant Project Management certification and a degree in building sciences and/or sustainability
* At least 10 years relevant experience
* Familiarity with Critical Facilities and Infrastructure
* Strong Project/program management skills
* Knowledge and experience in handling/creating relevant metrics/KPI's
* Experience in the Financial Institution sector preferred
* Background in consulting preferred

Role Description:
Arcadis is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mid-Level Civil Engineer to support one of the most iconic and consequential infrastructure initiatives in the United States - the Gateway Hudson Tunnel Project (HTP). In this role, you will be responsible for technical coordination, field engineering, project controls, and compliance with regulatory and quality standards.
We are working in partnership with Parsons and Mace as part of the MPA Delivery Partner team, selected by the Gateway Development Commission to deliver this transformative project. The HTP is a critical component of the broader Gateway Program - one of the most ambitious and impactful transportation initiatives in the nation - and is designed to strengthen mobility, enhance resiliency, and ensure the long-term reliability of the Northeast Corridor.
The project encompasses the construction of a new, two-track rail tunnel beneath the Hudson River, along with the full rehabilitation of the existing 113-year-old North River Tunnel. This vital infrastructure supports more than 200,000 daily passengers via Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT and serves as a backbone for economic activity and connectivity between New York and New Jersey.

Role Accountabilities:
Technical Coordination & Field Engineering
Assist with design reviews, resolve technical issues, and coordinate design change documentation.
Provide technical support during construction, review contractor submittals, and monitor progress against milestones.
Facilitate communication among stakeholders, schedule meetings, and assist with project documentation, including drawings and specifications.
Provide opinions on constructability, means and methods, and the impacts of technical decisions on the overall project, including analysis of critical path schedule impacts and scenario analyses.
Support the integration and coordination of all HTP Packages, ensuring comprehensive interface management and collaboration among design, construction, and operations teams.
Project Controls & Reporting
Assist with programmatic oversight and management of project controls functions, including schedule, cost, change, risk, and document management.
Update project controls procedures, workflow processes, and tools as requested.
Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly project reports, including safety, quality, environmental, and milestone status updates.
Maintain a “lessons learned” register and master “issues log” for the HTP.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
Support implementation and monitoring of the HTP Project Management Plan (PMP), Quality Management Plan (QMP), and other federally required plans.
Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including NEPA, Section 106, and permitting requirements.
Assist with quality assurance activities, including witnessing testing, periodic audits, and ensuring compliance with technical specifications and contract requirements.
Support environmental compliance programs, including air quality, noise, vibration, and historic preservation monitoring.
Risk & Change Management
Assist with risk management functions, including maintaining and updating risk registers, facilitating risk analysis, and supporting contingency planning.
Provide technical evaluations of changes to project/package scope, schedule, and cost; conduct independent reviews of technical design issues.
Support preparation and maintenance of change management logs and documentation.
BIM & Technology Support
Support BIM technology implementation, including development and maintenance of digital models, coordination with designers, and integration of project information.
Assist with configuration and implementation of project management information systems (PMIS) and other technology tools.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
3-7 years of experience in civil engineering, preferably on large infrastructure or transportation projects.
Key Skills and Abilities:
Strong knowledge of document numbering and retention policies.
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder coordination.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with digital collaboration platforms.
Working knowledge of change management processes for large capital projects.
Familiarity with public records policies and audit requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with public sector projects and federally funded programs.
Knowledge of environmental compliance, permitting, and reporting requirements.
Understanding of asset management, testing and commissioning, and field engineering best practices.
