1994

The reauthorization of the Head Start Act in 1994 made it possible to establish Early Head Start as a program to serve infants and toddlers under the age of 3, and pregnant women.

1995

Under the Clinton administration in 1995, Head Start’s appropriation was $3.53 billion and the first Early Head Start grants was given with services to some 752,000 children.

1998

The second revision for the Performance Standards was 1998, and the re-authorized to expand to full-day and full-year services.

1999

Delaware County Intermediate Unit became the grantee as of 1999.

2001

Child Outcomes were developed in 2001.

2006

In 2006, began offering English as a Second Language (ESL) Support

2009

Under the Obama administration in 2009, the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act added more than 64,000 slots for Early Head Start and Head Start programs.

2015

In July of 2015 DCIU was awarded an Early Head Start Child Care Partnerships Grant to provide early child care to families 0 to 3 years.

2016

The third revision of the Performance Standards was in 2016.

As of late 2016, more than 30 million children had participated in Early Head Start and Head Start.

2018

Doctor B served as director of the Office of Head Start from 2018-21.

2019

From 2019-21 she broadened her leadership as director of the Office of Early Childhood Development in the Administration for Children and Families.

2022
