Huckleberry Teen Health Program (HTHP) in San Rafael, provides youth and families with support along a continuum of services that includes health prevention, education, screening, and early intervention, as well as mental health and substance use counseling. The HTHP team works in close partnership with schools, community-based organizations, community clinics, and community members, to address some of the most urgent issues in adolescent health: sexuality, mental health, and substance use. Additionally, HTHP facilitates a weekly youth-only clinic where youth can receive confidential and no-cost sexual and reproductive health services, using a model of care that integrates behavioral and mental health screening and intervention into clinic visits. All services are offered in both English and Spanish.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Health Educator is deeply embedded in HTHP's health prevention and promotion activities. The Health Educator is responsible for planning, executing, and documenting educational workshops, adapting curriculum, conducting health counseling at Teen Tuesday Clinic, participating in community outreach, supporting intern and volunteer projects, and leading additional youth enrichment activities and programs. The Health Educator, Intermediate is a grant funded position that is part of NAU's Substance Abuse Block Grant, funded by Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS). The focus of the grant is on the primary prevention of substance misuse among college students. This position will execute a comprehensive strategy to promote health across all levels of the socio-ecological model with a focus on increasing protective factors and reducing risk factors associated with high-risk substance use. The Health Educator, Intermediate will be responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating evidence-informed strategies, programs and services that will reduce unwanted health outcomes related to substance misuse and mental wellbeing. This position will work closely with key campus partners such as Fraternity and Sorority Life and Campus Living to provide educational workshops, create educational materials and mobilize the community. Responsibilities
Develop and implement health education programs tailored to the needs of the student community.
Conduct workshops, seminars, and group sessions on various health topics such as nutrition, mental health, and sexual health.
Create and distribute educational materials, including brochures, newsletters, and online content.
Collaborate with campus organizations and local health agencies to promote health initiatives and resources.
Conduct assessments and evaluations of health programs to ensure effectiveness and relevance.
Provide one-on-one counseling and support to students seeking guidance on health-related issues.
Stay updated on the latest health trends and research to inform program development and community outreach efforts.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Education, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
At least 2 years of experience in health education or a similar role, preferably in a higher education setting.
Strong knowledge of health issues affecting college-aged students.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with diverse audiences.
Ability to develop and deliver engaging educational content and programs.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in program management and evaluation.
Proficiency in using technology and social media for health education outreach.
