Your Impact:

In this role, you will make a direct impact on the health and well-being of our corporate client members through the coordination, implementation, and/or delivery of health and fitness improvement programs and services, fitness center promotions and outreach activities. You will provide individual and group exercise instruction, monitor fitness facility and conduct fitness testing and assessments, advising participants of the results and designing individualized programs to meet the member's interests, abilities and goals. You'll teach group exercise classes and seminars onsite and virtually. Flexible 20 hpw schedule. Ideally working Tuesday-Thursday 9AM-3:30PM onsite as part of a 4-person team adjacent to The Woodlands Mall.

What you'll bring with you:

* Bachelor's degree in a related field (Kinesiology, Exercise Science, etc.) and fitness and wellness industry experience along with fitness industry certification(s) from a HealthFitness approved provider.
* Adult CPR/AED/First Aid certification from American Heart Association, American Red Cross or American Safety & Health Institute required within 30 days.
* Industry recognized Group Exercise certification from ACE, AFAA/NASM, ACSM or NETA.
* Ideal candidates will also have a Personal Training certification from an industry recognized and HealthFitness approved provider.
* Will be required to follow any current or future site COVID-19 vaccination policies including but not limited to proof of vaccination, weekly testing, etc.

The primary role of Health and Fitness Specialist is to work alongside the people we support in order to help them to achieve their Personal Outcomes. The Health and Fitness Specialist supports the people we are privileged to work with follow their goals in the field of health, fitness, yoga, dance, etc. This includes working with the individuals to develop an understanding of exercise, nutrition and holistic modalities to live a healthy life. The Health and Fitness Specialist will participate in the annual and semi-annual review process, development and implementation of individual's goals/services, and advocating for the needs of individuals. The Health and Fitness Specialist will also be responsible to network within the community to find health and fitness opportunities for the individuals receiving services.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions
Analyze individuals health and exercise needs and develop suitable exercise programs
Lead exercise and nutrition classes or teach individuals proper workout techniques
Facilitate yoga, meditation and other holistic modality classes
Organize games and challenges that promote physical activity
Work with the program team to organize and promote team sports
Work with the people we support to help them identify and realize their personal life goals
Advocate with the people we support in a variety of situations
Work with the people we support to teach them new life skills
Work with the people we support and other members of the interdisciplinary team to develop service plans that aid the person in achieving their personal life goals
Assist the people we support to overcome barriers and challenges to establish and maintain a network of relationships and valued social roles

Prevent, recognize and report abuse toward the people we support
Promote and support community involvement for the people we support

Qualifications
Education, Work Experience, and Competencies
High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum of one year experience providing services in health, fitness and nutrition
Experience with IDD population is strongly preferred
Supervisory experience preferred
Valid NYS Driver's License and satisfy criteria to be a driver for FREE
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with flexibility, keeping others informed and anticipating needs is essential
Must be efficient, well organized, and have excellent communication skills
No convictions for crimes that preclude a person from working with members of a vulnerable population
Physical Demands
Employee is required to sit, walk and stand for prolonged period of time (at least 8 hours)

A flexible, part-time opportunity with a great company making up to $25/hour! NIFS is hiring substitute Group Fitness Instructors and Fitness Specialists who can cover classes and fitness center hours when our staff take time off for vacation, training, or illness. The best part, you set your schedule and accept the shifts that work for you! The Health Fitness Specialist in Coverage follows the direction of the Manager to ensure quality in all areas of the Fitness Center including but not limited to customer service, member services, group fitness offerings, and other Fitness Center or departmental initiatives.

Essential Duties

  • Assesses health status of members, ranging from apparently healthy to high risk, to provide exercise and other wellness-related counsel/recommendations unique to each individual
  • Teaches group exercise classes onsite; provides a range of acceptable activities to meet various fitness levels of class participants; adheres to appropriate safety guidelines
  • Supervises fitness center and uses educational background and other relevant training to accurately and safely answer member questions related to health, fitness, and wellbeing
  • May conduct orientations according to the facility layout, membership policies/procedures, and Quality Assurance guidelines
  • Establishes an ongoing positive and professional rapport with members
  • Supports special events (e.g., races, charity walks)
  • Partners with other staff to help clean equipment and other areas of the facility as needed
  • Maintains familiarity with and abides by the policies stated in the NIFS Employee Handbook
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Education and/or Experience
    • Degree in a health-related field preferred, preferably from a four-year college/university
    • Relevant work experience required; experience with older adult clientele preferred
    • Ability to teach basic balance, chair exercise and muscle conditioning group fitness classes; where applicable, aquatic experience preferred
  • Certifications
    • Fitness-related certifications (CPT, CSCS, etc.) acknowledged
    • Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification required
    • May at any time be required to submit a successful background check and/or drug screen
    • May be required to complete and pass a TB Skin test
