The Technical Support Physicist will bring their upbeat personality to this role to solve problems with customers, troubleshoot errors and issues clinics are experiencing, and install software. The Technical Support Physicist will assist clinics by identifying solutions and will work with engineers to improve the software. As the Technical Support Physicist, you will develop relationships with clinics and incorporate feedback into creating clinics' dream products. With your clinical background, you will have the ability to improve efficiency in Radiation Oncology clinics throughout the country. Job Description We have an opening for a Sr. Health Physicist in the Radiation Protection Functional Area. In this role, you will provide an advanced level of health physics (HP) support to ensure radiation safety programs at LLNL are effective and compliant, sometimes working with parameters that may not be well defined. This position will also provide solutions to complex HP issues/problems and provide guidance and/or leadership to ES&H Team radiological control personnel (e.g., health physicists, technicians) in the area of field operations. This position is in the Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H) Directorate. This position m ay offer a hybrid schedule, which includes the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week, after a probationary period. The specifics of the hybrid schedule, including the exact number of days required in the office and virtual work options may vary based on the needs of the team and the organization. This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level. You will Evaluate and provide HP input on radiation safety policies and procedures that are complex and may not be well defined. Lead efforts to draft, review, and maintain related institutional documents and other contents. Conduct assessments and audits necessary to comply with applicable regulatory requirements independently, with minimal direction. Lead audits, inspections and site verifications by internal and external entities. Act as the point of contact (POC) for radiation protection program functional elements (e.g., contamination control, posting and labeling, radiation generating device, etc.). Lead the development and maintenance of associated program documents and processes, routinely interacting with professional colleagues, internal senior management, and sponsor organizations across and outside the Laboratory on advanced HP technical areas and projects/programs. Advanced knowledge and significant experience in development, analysis, and refinement of complex health physics procedures engaged in the monitoring and/or leading/mentoring/training personnel and work environments, with knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations and other consensus standards. Significant experience with preparing/leading complex technical reports and/or acting as the main POC conducting radiation safety audits and inspections. Effective organizational skills with attention to detail necessary to lead multiple tasks in a demanding environment with conflicting priorities, tight and changing deadlines, and frequent interruptions while providing high-level customer service and good follow-through.
