POSITION SPECIFICS
The Medical HealthPhysicist develops, implements, and oversees the radiation protection program involving radioactive materials, x-ray devices, and/or non-ionizing radiation, including lasers, and, where applicable, performs duties that support goals and objectives to provide quality patient care and patient satisfaction; program elements include dosimetry, environmental assessment, instrumentation, inventory control, record keeping, surveys, training, transportation, and waste management; complies with state and federal regulations through interpretation of regulatory criteria, changes thereto, auditing, oversight, and interfacing with regulatory agencies to achieve desired outcomes; provides guidance and recommendations to faculty, staff, students, and/or patients to assure that experimental work, equipment, design, or medical procedures conform to radiation safety standards for protection of personnel, patients, public, and the environment; initiates investigations for program compliance in response to reports of non-compliance or concerns; make recommendations for methods of dealing with radiological hazards; recommend proper response procedures; may act as delegate Radiation Safety Officer when necessary.
* Oversee and coordinate the implementation of specific aspects of the radiation safety program to ensure compliance with state, federal and University regulations
* Ensure radioactive materials are used safely and in compliance with rules and applicable state and federal regulations
* Perform diagnostic x-ray surveys and inspections
* Prepare reports and forms as required by state and federal agencies and University policies
* Design and maintain computer databases, spreadsheets, and regulatory calendars
* Provide technical advice and guidance to faculty, staff and students on radiation safety issues including best practices, policies, and regulations
* Perform radioactive material waste pickups and processing
* Coordinate and provide ongoing radiation safety training to faculty, staff, and students
* May have supervisory responsibilities of other staff positions
MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Professional and Scientific Positions.
BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
1. Degree: natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in healthphysics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus.
OR
2. Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a healthphysicist by the American Board of HealthPhysics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to healthphysics comparable to that described in paragraph A.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below.
GS-11: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes performing environmental physical science, environmental engineering, or healthphysics duties; applying standard practices of related disciples as they relate to healthphysics or engineering functions.
GS-12: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes conducting reviews and ensures laboratory radiochemistry procedures are compliant with regulations and license requirements; developing and implementing laboratory training programs and conduct classes.
GS-13: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-12, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes performing scientific and technical expert in the areas of chemical, biological, radiological effects on response operations; collaborating projects and coordinating work with others; attending meetings and conferences and presenting technical papers.
GS-14: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-13, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes providing technical healthphysics expertise in all areas; supervising the licensing actions; reviewing and revising the existing policy guidance directives to ensure compliance applicable to federal radiation related regulations.
GS-15:Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-14, or equivalent in other pay systems. * Knowledge of healthphysics principles, practices, techniques and procedures to effectively perform project development, execution, training and advisory services. Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, and other guidance to make decisions and recommendations concerning assigned and/or integration principles and practices; and health, safety, and security practices.
* Skill to integrate in an interdisciplinary team of professionals to include public health specialists, physical scientists, biological scientists, environmental engineers, regulators, and other governmental officials and community groups. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy. Communicate with a technical and lay community which may be either supportive or antagonistic.
* Knowledge and skill required to resolve environmental problems that require the investigation of radiation contamination or other questionable conditions. Ability to assist in identifying problems and provide necessary technical support to resolve issues. Must be capable of assisting with economic analysis to determine the feasibility of acquisitions and determine the most economical means of satisfying organizational and regulatory requirements.
* Knowledge and skill to accomplish environmental sampling for analysis and maintain contact with laboratory that is providing analytical services. Ability to interpret analytical results to determine proper disposal method.
* Ability to track radiation hazards, controls and evaluations in recognized Occupational and Environmental Health database.

The Pennsylvania State University Department of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), a department of University Police and Public Safety, is seeking to hire a HealthPhysicist. The HealthPhysicist is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the radiation protection program involving X-ray devices, non-ionizing radiation devices (including lasers), and assisting with radioactive materials and radioactive waste. Program elements encompass instrumentation, inventory control, record creation and maintenance, surveys, audits and inspections, training, transportation, environmental assessment, and waste management. This role ensures compliance with state and federal regulations through interpretation of regulatory criteria, changes thereto, auditing, and oversight to achieve desired outcomes.

Steward the University's Laser Safety Program

Job Description
We have an opening for a Sr. HealthPhysicist in the Radiation Protection Functional Area. In this role, you will provide an advanced level of healthphysics (HP) support to ensure radiation safety programs at LLNL are effective and compliant, sometimes working with parameters that may not be well defined. This position will also provide solutions to complex HP issues/problems and provide guidance and/or leadership to ES&H Team radiological control personnel (e.g., healthphysicists, technicians) in the area of field operations. This position is in the Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H) Directorate.

ay offer a hybrid schedule, which includes the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week, after a probationary period. The specifics of the hybrid schedule, including the exact number of days required in the office and virtual work options may vary based on the needs of the team and the organization.
This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.
You will
Evaluate and provide HP input on radiation safety policies and procedures that are complex and may not be well defined. Lead efforts to draft, review, and maintain related institutional documents and other contents.
Conduct assessments and audits necessary to comply with applicable regulatory requirements independently, with minimal direction. Lead audits, inspections and site verifications by internal and external entities.
Act as the point of contact (POC) for radiation protection program functional elements (e.g., contamination control, posting and labeling, radiation generating device, etc.). Lead the development and maintenance of associated program documents and processes, routinely interacting with professional colleagues, internal senior management, and sponsor organizations across and outside the Laboratory on advanced HP technical areas and projects/programs.
Provide guidance and clarification on a diverse range of complex issues and analyze & resolve radiation safety program implementation questions from field radiological control personnel on matters related to HP field operations.
Apply advanced technical knowledge to streamline processes.
Respond to radiological emergencies and incidents on site. Participate in event investigations and make recommendations to all levels of management to prevent recurrence.
Provide periodic support to Programmatic field operations.
Lead, develop, and present selected training courses in radiation safety (or related topics).
Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional job responsibilities, at the TSS.4 level
Act as a subject matter expert for radiation protection program, leading & directing tasks, setting broad visions, acting as a spokesperson for involved programs while working with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
Provide solutions to highly complex HP issues that may involve parameters that are intangible and require an in-depth level of analysis.
Apply highly advanced knowledge and substantial experience to advance radiation protection methods at the Laboratory.
Qualifications
Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
Bachelor's degree in HealthPhysics, Nuclear Engineering, Radiation Physics, or Radiation Protection or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Advanced knowledge and significant experience in development, analysis, and refinement of complex healthphysics procedures engaged in the monitoring and/or leading/mentoring/training personnel and work environments, with knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations and other consensus standards.

POSITION SPECIFICS
The Department of Radiology HealthPhysics at the Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, PA is seeking a non-tenure line Diagnostic Medical Physicist (Assistant Professor) to support imaging physics activities at the College and Penn State Health's five medical centers and numerous outpatient clinics. This position will provide physics support for a customizable selection of modalities (radiographic, fluoroscopic, CT, ultrasound, mammographic, MR, or nuclear medicine/PET imaging). Core responsibilities include acceptance testing, routine performance testing, and quality assurance oversight. Additional responsibilities include ACR accreditation support, radiation shielding and dosimetry calculations, clinical research support, and education/training of technologists, physicist assistants, medical residents, and physicians. This role offers a strong opportunity for professional growth and learning. The successful candidate will join our group of 6 diagnostic/medical healthphysicists, two MR safety officers, two medical physicist assistants, and two administrative assistants in a growing academic health system with state-of-the-art equipment and clinical care.
The position requires a graduate degree (MS, DMP, or PhD) in medical physics or a related discipline, at least two years of experience in clinical diagnostic radiology/nuclear medicine physics (including residency, if applicable), and board certification or eligibility in Diagnostic Medical Physics from the American Board of Radiology. For those board-eligible, we will provide a faculty appointment in Radiology after board certification. You must demonstrate excellent organizational, project management, and written/oral communication skills. The successful candidate must be flexible in nature, have sound judgment, and have the ability to work as a member of a collaborative team while still demonstrating strong individual initiative.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below.
GS-11: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes performing environmental physical science, environmental engineering, or healthphysics duties; applying standard practices of related disciples as they relate to healthphysics or engineering functions.
GS-12: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes conducting reviews and ensures laboratory radiochemistry procedures are compliant with regulations and license requirements; developing and implementing laboratory training programs and conduct classes.

* Provide periodic routine training and annual re-training for individuals in medical and research departments who work with radioactive material or electronically produced radiation devices.
* Develop training materials and the coordination of training sessions to ensure completion of compliance requirements.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
* Bachelor's Degree in healthphysics, medical healthphysics, medical physics, industrial hygiene, physics, a physical science, engineering or in a biological science with a minor in physical science or engineering OR master's degree in healthphysics or closely related field may be substituted for one year required experience
* Minimum five years full time professional experience in healthphysics.
* Minimum three years must have been in applied healthphysics, preferably at a medical broad scope licensee, requiring professional level judgment and involving radiation safety.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
* American Board of Radiology, American Board of HealthPhysics or American Board of Industrial Hygiene certified preferred.

Pay Range
Minimum Annual Salary: $69,600.00
Maximum Annual Salary: $106,132.50
