Responsibilities

Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in a related field and five years of experience in the direction and management of an HIV/AIDS or other relevant program in a public health, health/human services, health regulatory program or community-based services organization; OR nine years of such experience. The years of experience must have included policy formulation, program planning, design, implementation, evaluation, and/or allocation of resources. At least three years of experience must have included supervision of staff and program management. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
A Master of Public Health (MPH) degree; at least five years of program management experience; at least five years of experience with HIV and/or STD program and policy development; at least five years of supervisory experience of public health staff; at least two years of experience working with internal and external partners; demonstrated experience with public speaking in a local, state or national setting.

The Research Scientist I (RSI) will mainly work on syndromic data research and data quality control. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: contributing to the monitoring of Emergency Department (ED) HL7 data feeds and upcoming Emergency Medical Services (EMS) DataMart feeds to ensure data completeness and timeliness; researching and analyzing EMS data for syndromic surveillance; writing SAS codes for data validation, surveillance reports, and syndromic research to enhance the ESSS; developing and maintaining the ESSS Tableau module; creating syndrome definitions and filters using SAS; preparing and supporting presentations, peer-review publications, and other dissemination materials; and supporting public health surveillance using syndromic data and other data quality initiatives as needed.
Minimum Qualifications

Department (OC) Legal Affairs Job Description: Responsibilities The Associate Attorney will work within the Division of Legal Affairs, New York State Department of Health (DOH) and will be responsible for addressing all legal issues related to actual or potential public health emergencies.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: preparing memoranda and providing other forms of legal advice on issues of state and federal law; drafting agency regulations, proposed statutes, and emergency and executive orders; reviewing documents for consistency with policy and law; and coordinating efforts with attorney representatives of other state, local and federal government entities.
Subject matter areas include regulation of healthcare facilities and entities, environmental law, executive law, public officers law, education law (scope of practice), State aid to localities, contracts and MOUs, and communicable disease.
In addition, the Associate Attorney will work closely with other to ensure adequate legal coverage during actual or potential emergencies.

The incumbent will join a multi-disciplinary research team at the Center for Environmental Health's Division of Environmental Health Assessment and will assist with investigating potential associations between levels of so-called “forever chemicals” (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) measured in drinking water, soil samples and in serum samples from communities exposed to PFAS in drinking water. The incumbent will evaluate the extent of PFAS exposure in a population impacted by industry-driven PFOA contamination. This will include using GIS software to map and characterize PFAS exposure, developing and deploying a questionnaire to characterize exposure pathways, and estimating additional PFAS exposure concentrations from secondary routes. The incumbent will contribute to publications expected to advance scientific understanding of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, environmental transport, and toxicology.
Minimum Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a graduate program in public health, environmental health sciences or epidemiology.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience using GIS software to create maps, geocode address information and perform geographical analysis. Experience using Survey Monkey or similar, to create surveys to collect information from communities. Experience with SAS or similar statistical software to generate summary statistics, generate statistical models. Experience using SAS, spreadsheets or database software to match and compare data sets. Experience communicating summary statistics and modeling results in scientific settings through poster or other presentations.

Preferred Qualifications

Department (OPH) CCH - Division of Epidemiology Job Description: Responsibilities The Bureau of Surveillance and Data Systems (BSDS) is responsible for the management and oversight of several Department of Health (DOH) mission critical surveillance systems including the New York State Immunization Information System (NYSIIS) and Electronic Clinical Laboratory Reporting System (ECLRS), Communicable Disease Electronic Surveillance System (CDESS), the Electronic Syndromic Surveillance System (ESSS), and the Outbreak Management Solution (OMS).

In this role, the Research Scientist I will perform cutting edge research and development within the laboratory, including technical method comparisons, equipment validation, and the creation and refinement of Quality Assurance systems.
Wastewater testing is a rapidly growing field that has become central to the public health response to COVID-19 and other priority pathogens. As part of the largest state public health laboratory in the United States, the incumbent will contribute to the nation's largest state wastewater surveillance program. This dynamic, collaborative program includes investigators working across infectious disease and organic molecule testing. High-quality operation of this front-end laboratory is essential to the success of all downstream testing and program outcomes.
