Responsibilities

The behavioral health unit specialist participates with the health care team in delivering quality and customer focused health care to patients. The behavioral health unit specialist provides administrative and clerical services for a behavioral health nursing unit(s). The behavioral health unit specialist escorts and provides visitor management, manages legal status documentation and documents, communicates relevant information to the greater health care team, assists in supporting the unit leadership in scheduling appointments, assists with the patient belongings process, assists with collection and management of quality reporting, and supports day to day unit operations. The behavioral health unit specialist must have critical thinking skills, high attention to detail and integrity.



Qualifications

Education : High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience : Six months of office/clerical experience is required; six months of office/clerical experience in a behavioral health setting is preferred. Experience working with trauma informed care highly preferred.

Skills : Proficient in understanding of medical and behavioral health terminology strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to perform detailed work accurately. Expert communication skills required. Ability to effectively communicate with licensed independent providers, social workers, and other health care professionals. Excellent teamwork skills required. Must be able to proficiently operate applicable computer systems. Knowledge of legal proceedings as they apply to a behavioral health population.

Northwestern Medicine, Ben Gordon Center is seeking both new graduates and experienced Behavioral Health On-Call Crisis Referral Services Recovery Support/Engagement Specialists to join our team!

This position is responsible to respond and provide crisis services in the evening and on weekends within the greater DeKalb County area within one hour of being called. The duties include but are not limited to completing a crisis risk assessment and evaluation to determine safety plan and disposition.

The Recovery Support/Engagement Specialist is responsible for providing high quality services to the patient and the patients' family in order to promote optimal social and emotional functioning. These services include direct service to patients and their families. The Recovery Support/Engagement Specialist coordinates options and services to meet the patients' needs through collaboration and consultation with physicians and other healthcare personnel. On-call social services are provided to patients in the Emergency Department, medical floors, community mental health center, and in the DeKalb County community (e.g. individuals' homes, schools, and other natural settings).

A Recovery Support/Engagement Specialist must possess (or obtain within 1 year) the CRSS (Certified Recovery Support Specialist) credential and identify as an individual with lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery. This position would serve on the 590 Crisis Team and respond to crises with a clinician as part of a Mobile Crisis Response (MCR) Team. The 590/MCR team is a 24/7/365 rapid response model to assess an individual in a crisis situation any age, anywhere, and anytime, offering community-based interventions and stabilization where the individual is located (for example at home, work, school, or anywhere else in the community).

Qualifications

Required:

* Bachelor's degree with major in social work or related field with equivalent in education, training, or experience and documented mental health training or experience.
* Documented experience providing direct service to patients.
* Knowledge of the mental health code.
* Knowledge of normal characteristics of growth and development throughout the span of life.
* Demonstrates ability to work productively and effectively in a timely manner, ability to function well as a member of a multidisciplinary team, and ability to represent the program well in interactions both inside and outside the host hospital.
