Goodwill Industries was founded in 1902 in Boston, Massachusetts by Rev.
Goodwill Industries of Houston was founded in 1945.
Locally, Heart of Texas Goodwill Industries, Inc. was founded in Waco in 1955
Established in Austin in 1958, Goodwill Central Texas, a private, non-profit, 501(c)3 organization, has become a multi-dimensional non-profit deeply entwined with business and job growth, the environment, and the overall spirit of Central Texas.
In 1965, Goodwill Houston purchased a large section of land in Houston’s Fifth Ward at 5200 Jensen Drive to serve as its new main campus.
Goodwill Industries of Lubbock opened their doors in 1967 with a donation from the Lubbock Lions Club and the Downtown Rotary Club.
In 1967, Goodwill provide training and employment to 20 disabled staff and program participants.
In 1986, with more than twenty years of service as CEO, Bill Lufburrow passed away suddenly due to a heart attack.
Goodwill Houston moved to 10795 Hammerly in 2005 where it saw five years of strong growth.
Goodwill Industries of Lubbock, Inc. (GIL) acquired 21 counties in the Panhandle of Texas and 3 counties in Oklahoma in 2009.

In 2019, Goodwill’s Career Resource Center Program (CRC) served 836 unduplicated participant through employment training programs provided at no charge to them, 202 were placed into area jobs and more than 1,086 attended specialty training classes through the program.
