Porter-Gaud is an Episcopal, coeducational day school serving more than 1,000 students in grades 1-12. The O'Quinn Schools of Porter-Gaud serve an additional 600 preschool students from age two through kindergarten. Porter-Gaud School is seeking a Middle School Counselor beginning with the 2026 - 27 school year. Our Middle School division is composed of grades 5 through 8. The Middle School Counselor is the primary coordinator of mental health services for Middle School students and families. The Middle School Counselor also provides educational programs for students, families, and faculty to promote understanding of well-being in adolescents. The Middle School Counselor should be recognized as a visible and engaged campus leader who partners with school leadership, faculty, and outside partners to this end.
Porter-Gaud maintains school counselors on staff in each division who are available to students during the school day on a drop-in basis or by appointment in several different situations (e.g., one-on-one, student groups, ongoing support around specific concerns). Students can access a counselor through self-referral, faculty/staff referral, a parent/guardian referral, or a peer referral for either of the following, including but not limited to peer issues, academic challenges, and behavior challenges.
When a student is referred to the school counselor, professional guidelines of confidentiality, as determined by the school, are observed. A student's involvement with the school counselor does not become a part of their academic record. Pertinent information regarding the student and their need for counseling while at school will be shared with the school's divisional administration.
School Counselors collaborate with the administration, faculty, families, and other needed consultants to develop school-based programs that support the social and emotional well-being of students within the context of the school community. Essential Duties
Creating a safe, caring learning environment for students after school
Maintaining a structured schedule that includes time for snack, homework assistance, fun activity, and free time
Taking attendance
Keeping detailed sign-out records to ensure students are picked up by an approved individual
Preparing snacks
Planning activities and crafts
Supervising and engaging with students and ensuring a safe, positive environment
Specific Job Skills
Previous experience in child care
Team player
Flexibility with availability and assignment
Ability to take direction and work well with others
Have strong communication skills
Working Conditions
Expansive school campus with 122+ acres, must be able to travel between buildings independently.
Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending may be required throughout the day at various intervals
Ability to lift up to 50lbs

Job Description
The Summer Camp Counselor is a non-exempt position responsible for leading a group of campers enrolled in Hammond's Hawk Ridge Camp. Hammond's Hawk Ridge Camp is designed to provide campers from three years old to rising 6th grade with a summer full of fun, age-appropriate activities and a variety of hands-on enrichment opportunities while building self-esteem through positive interactions. Campers are divided into three age groups: 3 - 4 years old, rising K - 1st grades and rising 2nd - 6th grades. Each camper will have the opportunity to experience a variety of field trips and field studies as well as music, theatre, art, sports, outdoor adventures, and much more! Camp activities are carefully organized according to age group, are planned in advance, and provide hands-on interactive learning in a stimulating and safe environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Assist in preparing and implementing the appropriate planned activities for assigned campers/group.
Supervise and motivate a group of campers in an age-appropriate manner that is fun and engaging.
Implement the Hawk Ridge Camp procedures and policies effectively to ensure the safety of all participants in the program.
Maintain accurate and organized records such as attendance rosters, and all other paperwork to ensure program compliance and quality operations.
Assist with maintaining, cleaning, and straightening of the designated classroom or area before, during, and after the program each day.
Job Qualifications:
Minimum Education Requirements: High School diploma.
Experience working with young children.
Ability to be flexible with the day-to-day uncertainties and changing circumstances of camper enrollment and schedules.
Must be available for all 8 weeks of camp -- Thursday, May 28 - Friday, July 31 from 8 AM-4 PM. Summer Programs is closed the week of June 29-July 3.
Reporting: The Summer Camp Counselor reports to the Director of Auxiliary Programs.
