We are growing and have an excellent opportunity for a Skilled Heavy Equipment Operator, especially backhoe and/mini excavator for sewer & water service repairs/replacements for our Buffalo, NY branch located in West Seneca, New York.
The average yearly earnings for this position is between $65,000-$75,000.
Responsibilities
Operates back-hoe, mini-excavator, skid steers, and/or other excavation machinery equipped with scoops, shovels, or buckets to excavate and load loose materials on residential and commercial job sites.
Load, unload and secure equipment on transport trailers according to guidelines.
Follow OSHA and Roto-Rooter safety procedures.
Work collaboratively with a crew to efficiently complete excavation work on various projects.
Interact with customers as needed, providing excellent customer service and addressing their requirements professionally.
Maintain excavation equipment and gather all necessary equipment from the branch and/or rental companies to ensure smooth operations during excavation tasks.
Perform excavation work in confined spaces and open trenches, adhering to safety protocols and guidelines.
Locate and arrive at job sites promptly, ensuring safe driving and operation of service vehicles between locations.
Requirements
Essential requirement: Construction experience in both residential and commercial projects.
Mandatory requirement: Possession of a current CDL Class A license for this position.
Trenchless water, sewer & gas experience is a plus.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, as required for the role.

Key Responsibilities
Opens and closes the facility according to scheduled hours of operation.
Oversees the schedule of where and which trucks are to dump and switching out trailers.

Basic Purpose
Positions in this job family are responsible for operating power equipment and performing related tasks in the maintenance and repair of highways.
Typical Functions
Operates equipment or heavy machinery such as trucks, tractors, road graders, dozers, front- end loaders, cranes, backhoes, paint machines, semi-trailers, snow removal equipment and other equipment as needed.
Performs minor repairs and maintenance on equipment and facilities.
Repairs failures in the roadway shoulders or bridge decks.
Repairs and/or replaces signs, posts, guardrails and fences.
Provides traffic control assistance using a stop/slow sign or flag to direct highway traffic.
Applies herbicide to highway right-of-ways to control weeds and other unwanted vegetation.

Education and Experience requirements at this level are none.
Level II:
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of one year of experience in operating heavy equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of the operation and servicing of equipment or heavy machinery used in highway construction and maintenance; of materials used in highway construction and maintenance; and of proper highway traffic control during maintenance operations. Ability is required to operate heavy equipment or machinery used in highway construction and maintenance; to use highway construction and maintenance materials; to follow instructions; and to communicate effectively.
Special Requirements
Possession of a valid Oklahoma driver's license at time of employment.
Some agencies may require possession of a valid Oklahoma commercial driver's license, class A or B with appropriate endorsements referenced in United States Department of Transportation Title 47, Chapter 6, Section 101 et seq. at time of appointment.
Persons appointed to positions at the Oklahoma Department of Transportation or the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority must possess or obtain a commercial driver's license, class A, no later than five months from the date of appointment.
ODOT employees are required to have a CDL tank vehicle endorsement.

* Flow Monitoring: Oversee the efficient flow of all transfer station operations, ensuring the floor remains clear and materials move through the system effectively.
* Safety & Compliance Oversight: Ensure employees are consistently wearing proper PPE and following all company safety policies and procedures.
* Closing Procedures: Verify that all end-of-shift responsibilities are completed correctly and ensure the team leaves the facility together following safety and security protocol.
* After-Hours Contact: Act as the main point of contact for the Manager during after-hours shifts, communicating urgent needs, concerns, or updates in real time.
* Employee Training: Train employees on all equipment used at the transfer station, ensuring proper operation, safety, and process understanding.
* Computer & Reporting Skills: Use basic computer software to navigate systems and run required reports to maintain compliance with regulatory permits and internal standards.
Qualifications
* Previous experience in transfer station, waste management, logistics, or industrial operations preferred
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to make quick, informed decisions
* Commitment to safety and compliance
* Ability to train and mentor employees
* Basic computer proficiency, including navigating software and generating reports
* Reliable, consistent, and able to adapt to changing operational needs
