Department: Public Works Department Organizational Unit: Roadway and Bridge Position Type: Permanent Full Time/Part Time: Full Time Open Until Filled. $18.21 to $20.03 hourly. Actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications. South Area/Palm Bay. Work schedule is Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Performs experienced service work operating light automotive vehicles or equipment and performing routine automotive service and maintenance.
REQUIREMENTS: Six (6) months of experience operating light motor vehicles and/or Public Works equipment used to maintain roads, drainage, sidewalks, and landscaping. Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida Class B Commercial Driver's license and maintain said license during the term of employment. This job involves heavy physical labor performed outdoors with exposure to dirt, noise, fumes, traffic, moving heavy equipment, and extreme weather conditions. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, or any natural or man-made disaster threatening the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.

About our Opportunity: The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Lead EquipmentOperator III in the Public Works department specifically working on a concrete crew.The purpose of this classification is to lead a crew involved in driving and operating
vehicles and other equipment with specialized functions that involve the operation of complex mechanisms to
complete tasks for various maintenance, repair, and/or construction projects in an assigned department, in addition
to driving and maneuvering the vehicle.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This is the sixth level in the EquipmentOperators series. Incumbents in this classification utilize equipment that
have mechanisms that are complex to operate, require the highest degree of skill, dexterity, and finesse to perform
work to exacting tolerances, as well as equipment included in lower levels in this job family, and provide lead
guidance, direction, and training to assigned staff.
This position is schedule to work a four day 40 hour workweek beginning on Tuesday through Friday. This position will also be required to be on call during emergency situations that require Public Works attention such as snow removal.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude

Leads and coordinates daily work activities of assigned co-workers: confers with supervisor to obtain direction

primarily driven and operated on-site, but does require some driving over public roads; maneuvers in and around
traffic, crew workers, equipment, utilities, and other obstacles; obeys all traffic laws and safety guidelines; and
monitors immediate environment and work area to ensure the safety of operator, other workers, the equipment,
and the public.
Operates excavator, track hoe, and backhoe to perform skilled digging and trenching for maintenance, upkeep, and
construction for assigned department, where exacting tolerances and specifications are required; controls
placement of equipment and determines optimum approach to each digging scenario to minimize destruction of
property and avoid electric, water, sewer, and other public utility lines.
Operates a track or rubber-tired loader with large volume and weight capacities to load materials into trucks or
move them over short distances; positions equipment and controls height, angle, and position of scoop for
optimum delivery of payload; and controls amount, and weight of materials being lifted to avoid exceeding
equipment capacity.
Operates motor-grader, scraper, and excavator with blade attachment to set gradients for large construction and
maintenance projects such as roads, landscaping, embankments, and other projects requiring exacting
specifications related to slope, angle, and pitch; determines appropriate settings and adjusts blades for height,
angle, and pitch to achieve desired outcome; and maneuvers equipment and operates mechanisms to skillfully set
gradient, smooth surfaces, and spread materials.
Operates bulldozer, scraper, and compactor to move earth, gravel, sand, and other materials for large construction
and maintenance projects; and operates mechanisms to establish rough grades or to smooth and compact surfaces
in preparation for pavement, construction, or other work.
Drives large tractor-trailer rigs and low boys to transport and move construction equipment to and from job sites;
positions vehicle to allow for the most efficient and effective loading or unloading of equipment and materials; and
secures all doors, gates, and fasteners to prevent spillage or loss of load.
Inspects and prepares equipment for safe and proper operation prior to beginning work for the day: performs light
maintenance on equipment, which includes changing oil, refueling, and refilling lubricants; cleans vehicles, beds,
and mounted equipment upon completion of assignments; and secures vehicle after use.
Performs manual labor in support of construction, maintenance, and repair projects: lifts, moves, loads, and
unloads materials, equipment, tools, and supplies; digs ditches, trenches, and holes manually or utilizing power
equipment; shovels, rakes, spreads, compacts, and levels dirt, rock, asphalt, cement, and other materials; retrieves
supplies, materials, tools, equipment and other items and runs various errands as needed; collects, transports,

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina Class A and Class B

Work Zone Safety certification.

Carolina CAT is searching for an experienced Heavy Equipment Lube Technician. This position is responsible for preventative maintenance service and lube system repairs on heavy construction equipment and requires heavy interaction with customers so customer-service skills are a must!
Essential Functions
* Required to operate and inspect machines / equipment to gain access for lubrication and PM services.
* Complete all services accurately, safely and in a timely manner to meet productivity goals.
* Ability to review and understand the PM intervals and schedules
* Self-motivated, responsible, reliable, and willing to work in all weather conditions and environments.
* Positive attitude and work ethic along with excellent communication skills.
* Safely operate drive and maintain company lube truck.
* Continuously research and learn as required in order to improve knowledge and abilities as machine models change.
* Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience
* Ability to develop own work schedule and adjust when needed to accommodate job needs.
* GED or equivalent and 1 to 3 years of related experience or combination of training and experience with Caterpillar, John Deere, Komatsu, Volvo, etc.
* Ability to comprehend safety, service, and parts manuals.
* Able to climb in, on, and around equipment, be flexible for awkward reaches and positions.
* Must be able to bring / own tools.
