The Equipment Operator will skillfully operate various types of heavy equipment (92,000 lbs. tracked excavator, D-6 dozer, D-8 dozer, 3-5CY loader, etc.) associated with dirt work construction. The Equipment Operator must be able to demonstrate safe operation of assigned equipment based on changing operating conditions. The Equipment Operator is expected to use their experience and judgment to make decisions within their limits of authority.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Read and interpret site-specific Safety Plan at each site; may be amended daily.
Read and interpret equipment operator's manuals; most vehicles are owned; some rentals may be encountered so operator must learn new limitations at each work site.
Read and comprehend container labels prior to touching or opening.
Read and interpret rigging load charts.
Read manifests or waste stream labels on containers to avoid missing unlike waste streams shipped off site.
Read MSDSs that accompany all new and existing chemicals brought to or used at the hazardous waste site.
Operate/drive construction type/truck equipment.
Work in areas of uneven terrain.
Wear and work in different types of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Climbing/stooping while wearing PPE.
Demolish contaminated buildings/structures (dust/noise).
May assist in the training of new or less skilled Equipment Operators.
Ability to demonstrate common sense understanding and carrying out detailed written and oral instructions.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of individuals in person, via telephone, two-way radio and in writing. Excellent customer relations skills.
Have a strong work ethic.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions.
Perform operations using weights and measures, volumes, and distances.
Ability to interpret load charts and estimate weight.
Must have and maintain a valid driver's license if assigned to operate any Company X vehicles and must meet the company's vehicle insurance requirements.
Must be able to read and comprehend safety plans, rules, maintenance instructions, training manuals, Material Data Safety Sheets (MSDS), warning tags, traffic signs and procedure manuals.
Must be physically able to perform job tasks.
Must be able to pass all required training i.e. HAZWOPER.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have and maintain a valid driver's license. Prefer CDL licensure. Prefer previous experience working in and around a construction (dirt) project.
Work Environment:
Outside environment, exposure to all weather conditions and temperature extremes. Site specific exposure to hazardous materials requiring proper use of Personal Protective Equipment. Noise levels are site specific and may be subject to PPE.

Responsibilities
Work under the direction of the Lead Operator, Earthwork Foreman, Earthwork Superintendent, and/or other designated project leads
Follows and maintains safe operating procedures and protocols for all equipment operation and field activity in accordance with Moretrench safety policy and OSHA requirements
Safely performs physical duties associated with operation of Moretrench heavy equipment including but not limited to bending, kneeling, stooping, reaching, handling, climbing into and out of, and around heavy equipment
Works safely in a wide variety of climatic conditions and job site environments commonly found at Moretrench job sites
Performs daily greasing and fluid checks and assumes responsibility for the maintenance and safe operation of any and all assigned pieces of equipment
Inspects assigned equipment prior to each use; and makes appropriate, accurate, and timely entries into the operator's checklist / equipment log for each piece of equipment operated
Immediately reports any equipment damage, maintenance problems or concerns and safety issues to the Foreman and/or Superintendent
Follows direction of the Foreman and/or Superintendent to overcome issues with changing and/or unforeseen field conditions or project scope
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years' experience operating multiple pieces of heavy equipment at Class A operator level
Extensive experience in heavy equipment operations involving mass excavations; clearing and grubbing; backfilling and compacting; excavating and pipe laying; and construction and maintenance of embankments, berms, and dikes
In the case of a truck loading excavator, the ability to fully and safely load loads trucks in an efficient manner to meet the goals of the project
Demonstrate the skills of a finish grade operator (tolerance of 1/10 of a foot or better) on at least one piece of equipment, dozer or excavator
Skilled and fully competent in using GPS system as a grading tool to achieve grades
Skilled at the practice of operating safely on worksites according to OSHA, MSHA and Moretrench safety protocols and requirements
Note that all job site locations are remote and temporary, so a form of transportation is required. The vast majority of our work is within a 1 hour drive of Riverview, FL (just outside of Tampa) so our personnel do very little travel
Valid Florida driver's license, or the equivalent
Able to operate heavy machinery for long periods, including evenings and weekends when necessary
Must be able to operate machinery in all weather conditions and terrains
Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time

Additional Details

What We Need from You:
Valid driver's license required with a clean motor vehicle report

Able to operate an excavator/track hoe.
Proficiency in pipe installation techniques, including bedding and backfilling.
