    Northwest Container Services (NWCS), is looking to hire a highly motivated, Heavy Equipment Mechanic to work on Terex/Lift Ace container reach stackers, Hyster forklifts, Genie snorkel lifts, chassis, small engines, gen sets at our sites in Tacoma (1801 Taylor Way Ste A, Tacoma, WA 98421) and Seattle (635 S Edmunds St, Seattle, WA 98108). Primary yard will be Tacoma. Pay range is $35.00 - $40.00/HR DOE Schedule is Monday - Friday Shift is 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM with some overtime as needed Safety Sensitive: Yes Position requires Valid Driver's License , eligible motor vehicle report , eligible criminal background report & clean drug panel screening. Responsibilities: Must have the flexibility to travel to our yard in Portland, Oregon or Boardman, Oregon if needed for support or training. Performs repairs and assigned preventive maintenance services. Diagnosis and repair of electrical, hydraulic, engine, transmission, suspension, differential, planetary, wet and air brakes on vehicles and equipment. Must have basic computer / electronic skills. Utilize vehicle computer electronic systems and laptop programs for repairs. Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards. Maintain a clean shop truck and an organized parts room with adequate inventory for repairs. Maintain accurate records on equipment, including oil samples, work orders and daily worklog. Requires strenuous outside physical work, heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 75 pounds. The ability to communicate the status of repairs on equipment to operations and management. Work with local vendors and parts suppliers for outside repairs as needed. Safely operate, maintain and work around heavy equipment and machinery including, but not limited to; all types of Directional Drills, Vermeer and/or Ditch Witch, locators, vibratory utility plow, various types of Trucks, Excavators, Forklifts, Dump trucks, etc. Install and maintenance of underground utilities and verify in accordance with blueprints. Loading and transporting materials and equipment to various job site locations. Ensures safety of the public and other utilities underground facilities. Will operate other heavy equipment and tools associated with construction activities, as needed. Must inspect, maintain, and operate equipment per safety and company guidelines. Report vehicle and equipment maintenance requirements to team lead. Repair damaged equipment as directed by the team lead or project manager. Perform other duties and tasks as assigned to help the team complete a project. Required Skills & Abilities: 2+ years of experience in the safe operation and maintaining of Vermeer, Ditch Witch, locators, vibratory plow is required. Read, understand, and interpret engineering plans and specifications. Must be able to work independently at times and understand and implement construction safety procedures. Operate horizontal directional drill rig (HDD). Operate excavation equipment (backhoe, trencher, hydro-vac, etc.) as needed. Must be able to communicate with others to convey information effectively. Maintain positive public relations (interact with the customer/public in a courteous manner). Able to follow and complete tasks assigned by the team lead. Make sure the job site is safe for employees and pedestrians. Able to read specs and prints. Education and Experience: 2+ years of experience in the safe operation and maintaining of Vermeer, Ditch Witch, locators, vibratory utility plows is required. Work Experience: 2-4 yrs. experience with Heavy Equipment operation, and maintenance. Industry Knowledge: 1+ yrs. of general knowledge of Utility Construction Procedures, including print reading. Have knowledge of or be familiar with all procedures and associated tools and equipment necessary to install underground utilities in the most effective, safe, and profitable manner. Comprehension of ground conditions for drilling/boring. High School graduate or has obtained GED. Additional Hiring Requirements: Must be able to travel throughout various locations in/out of state with some overnight stays as necessary. Company vehicles are provided during your workday, but employees must have reliable transportation to get to/from their first job site. Must have a cell phone to clock in/out of mobile application. Other duties as assigned by management Requirements Skills and Abilities: Required Previous experience operating heavy equipment, preferably in winter conditions. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Ability to work early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed during snow events. Physically fit and able to work in extreme weather conditions for extended periods. Strong safety awareness and ability to assess and mitigate risk in variable conditions. Ability to think critically, work in a team or alone, be self motivated and ability to be flexible. Successful completion of Heavy Equipment Operator training by an authorized Mt. Baker Ski Area trainer Preferred Experience working in a mountain or ski area environment. Familiarity with hydraulic systems, snow removal patterns, and mountain terrain. Essential Physical Requirements: Working in the mountain environment is physically demanding. You need to be in good health and in good physical condition and have the ability to perform the following: Bending, twisting, lifting, and moving items throughout the day Ability to work outside in inclement winter weather Ability to lift and move 60 pounds (or more depending on the task) Standing and or sitting for long periods Climbing and descending stairs Shoveling and moving snow Standing and walking on compact snow and ice Perform repetitive tasks as necessary Outdoor, physically demanding work in varying winter weather conditions including snow, wind, low visibility, and freezing temperatures. Use of radios and communication systems in a team environment. Exposure to loud equipment, uneven terrain, and fast-paced operational timelines.
