Heavy equipment mechanics are trained mechanics with knowledge of transmissions, electrical and hydraulic systems. To be a mechanic for Commonwealth Equipment, a candidate must possess a strong work ethic and an ability to handle unexpected situations at a moment's notice. They diagnose mechanical problems, repair equipment, and check and schedule work with the Service Coordinator daily.
Mechanics perform preventative maintenance on equipment including routine maintenance, checking and changing belts, motors, electrical systems, and pumps in order to prevent damage from occurring. If damage does occur, the mechanic also diagnoses the problem and makes appropriate repairs on the machine. To determine whether a machine is properly repaired, mechanics execute a test run to verify the machine is operating smoothly and has no mechanical issues.
Engineers are also called upon to perform inspections on equipment. When performing these inspections, mechanics lubricate and test parts while also checking for severity of wear. In order to perform these and all other duties, the mechanic must use power tools, machine tools, welding tools, and more. During all phases of maintenance, inspection or repair of equipment, mechanics carefully document the work done, time spent on task, and materials used in order to properly invoice customers. Mechanics read, write and process work orders and complete paperwork accurately and completely whenever any work is performed on a machine.

Kwest Group president will review each recommendation and give the final approval for a classification compensation advancement or reclassification. An approved recommendation is then forwarded to the Director of HR for execution of advancement or reclassification. The team member's foreman and general superintendent will discuss with the team member regarding their evaluation and any change in compensation or classification.

Previous crane mechanic experience not required but a plus

What You'll Do:
Champion Safety. Take an active role in prioritizing safety throughout the operation for yourself and others at all times in accordance with MSHA and Vulcan standards. Follow established traffic patterns, avoiding hazardous conditions and immediately reporting any unsafe conditions.
Operate Mobile Equipment Loaders. Operate mobile equipment loaders to load aggregates for processing, feed the plant, and safely load customers' trucks with desired specification product within legal load limits. Operate a loader to strip and prep the site for mining and to push material closer to the feeder for processing.
Monitor Materials. Maintain an adequate feed of materials and maintain stockpiles. Visually inspect materials for compliance with specifications.
Perform Inspections and Maintenance. Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections and accurately completes daily mobile equipment reports. Observe the plant and report any necessary maintenance or adjustments that may be required. Clean yard and plant areas. Participate in maintenance, repair, and general plant housekeeping activities.

Skills You'll Need:
Experience. Must have a minimum of 2 years experience in operating loaders and dozers in a plant environment.
Functional and Safety Knowledge. Must have a solid knowledge and understanding of the capabilities of the equipment and specifications of different finished materials. Must have the ability to recognize various products by sight and understand proper plant operation. Must have a solid knowledge and understanding of OSHA and MSHA rules and regulations. Must have hazard recognition skills.
Flexibility. Must be able to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands. Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.
Ready to Drive. Must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

**General Description**
The Heavy Equipment Operator - Asphalt is responsible for operating equipment in a safe and effective manner on jobsites.
