Base Pay: $17.38 Hourly . SUMMARY: Drives various kinds of trucks and operates various types of equipment engaged in the construction, repair and maintenance of streets, landfills, alleys, county facilities, grounds and in clearing rights-of-way. The employee is required to be on duty before, during, and after natural disasters and emergencies, as directed by the supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Regularly operates, inspects, and evaluates machinery, equipment, and systems to include front-end loaders, pneumatic roller, flat wheel roller, maintainer, tractor-operated auger, chip spreader, sheepsfoot roller, sweeper, compactor, and other equipment as assigned.
Checks oil, water, fuel, tires, hydraulic system, etc. and makes appropriate adjustments in order to be certain that vehicle or equipment is in proper operating condition prior to leaving for the job site.
Performs routine maintenance support and activities to include maintenance and construction work, drainage work, traffic control, right-of-way mowing, etc.
Drive a dump truck or other truck hauling materials and equipment to construction or repair sites.
Operates heavy equipment such as a maintainer in a trainee status.
Perform preventive maintenance work and make minor repairs on equipment (including welding).
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Depending on assignment, may supervise and/or direct the work of a patch crew on an intermittent basis.
Carries out responsibilities in accordance with Nueces County organization policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities may include training employees, planning, assigning and directing work and resolving problems.

Light Equipment Operators will operate one or more construction equipment such as but not limited to bob cats, bulldozers, excavators, front-end loaders, back hoes, rollers, and graders to move earth. They will also be responsible for safety, equipment
inspections, and possibly assisting with repairs. The position will be expected to assist
other crafts in their down times which may include non-operating activities.

processes such as but not limited to equipment inspection paperwork.
Must be willing and able to follow all instructed safety regulations.
Must be able to make it to work on time and work the designated schedule and

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, structural, fuel, air conditioning, and hydraulic systems on heavy, construction, and miscellaneous equipment according to safety requirements.
Responsibilities
* Diagnose and repairs vehicles and equipment using various techniques, tools, equipment, platforms, and systems; to include, but not limited to, brakes, steering, suspension, electrical systems, body work, hydraulics, cooling systems, fuel systems, tires, and exhaust systems
* Assists parts department in requisitioning parts (when required) and maintaining status
* Performs machinist and welding activities
* Maintains equipment by checking fluid levels, checks for leaks, improper operations, adjusts belts, adjusts and repairs brakes, repairs lights, replaces hoses, lines, and switches
* Cleans out radiators and tracks
* Inspects and replaces work out fan belts, lamps, and batteries
* Tests and replaces worn out water pumps, power steering pumps, alternators, and belt tensioners
* Repairs and maintains vehicle air conditioning systems
* Inspects clutch, electrical wiring, and Freon levels; complete all levels of repair
* Drives and/or operates equipment as needed for repairs, to and from vendors for service and repairs, and as a test for safety, to perform diagnostics and to ensure repairs are complete
* Drives to different sites within the city limits for roadside services, mud pulls, jump starts, etc.
* Coordinates the team efforts by completing work orders, filling in required data for work, and entering data into computer
* Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
* Maintains work site for cleanliness and safety
* May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
