Position Requirements

Drives large tractor-trailer rigs and low-boys to transport solid waste between transfer stations and the landfill or to move construction equipment to and from job sites; positions vehicle to allow for the most efficient and effective loading or unloading of equipment and materials; and secures all doors, gates, and fasteners to prevent spillage or loss of load.
Inspects and prepares equipment for safe and proper operation prior to beginning work for the day; performs light maintenance on equipment, which includes changing oil, refueling, and refilling lubricants; cleans vehicles, beds, and mounted equipment upon completion of assignments; and secures vehicle after use.
Transports, loads and unloads various materials and equipment used in projects.
Utilizes safety equipment and wears protective gear; monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; monitors traffic conditions surrounding trucks/equipment to identify obstructions, pedestrians, or unsafe traffic conditions; flags and directs traffic and places markers, signs and cones around project/work site to ensure safety of crew and the traveling public; and reports any incidents, accidents, problems, or unusual situations.

JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for being the lead person of an operations team for assigned projects. Performing or directing performance of the inspecting, maintenance, control process and rail loading operations. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including a tandem dump truck, winch truck, front-end loader, tractor, bulldozer, track-hoe, backhoe, boring machine, small truck, jackhammer, bushhog, tree cutter, chain saw, harrow, seeder, trencher, sewer rodding machine, pipe threader, gas-powered saw, mechanic tools, power tools, etc. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. This position requires: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motion. Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those of heavy work. May be exposed to such elements as diseases, toxic chemicals, raw sewage, inclement weather, and high-pressure unregulated water flows.

FORM/SPATIAL APTITUDE: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape, visually with a variety of machinery and equipment including a tandem dump truck, winch truck, front-end loader, tractor, bulldozer, track-hoe, backhoe, boring machine, small truck, jackhammer, bushhog, tree cutter, chain saw, harrow, seeder, trencher, sewer rodding machine, pipe threader, gas-powered saw, mechanic tools, power tools, etc.
MOTOR COORDINATION: Requires the ability to coordinate hands, fingers, and eyes accurately in using equipment. Requires the ability to lift, bend, push, pull, manipulate equipment/tools and objects as the position necessitates.
MANUAL DEXTERITY: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as automated machinery and equipment, hand tools, mechanic tools, power tools, and pipe/fitting supplies. Must have the ability to use one hand for twisting or turning motion while coordinating other hand with different activities. Must have moderate levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
COLOR DISCRIMINATION: Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color.
INTERPERSONAL TEMPERAMENT: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under minimal stress when confronted with an emergency.
