    Responsible for operating and maintaining various heavy equipment, including but not limited to trench excavators, backhoes, and loaders in a safe expeditious manner in accordance with OSHA safe practices. Responsibilities Operate a variety of heavy equipment for underground utility projects. Take actions to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, or falling objects. Locate underground services, such as pipes or wires, prior to beginning work. Understand proper backfill requirements. Perform safe and clean trench excavation and backfill. Set and pull shield shoring and trench boxes in accordance with OSHA safe practices. Safely change buckets and attachments in a timely manner Able to calculate and set proper grades and elevations. Monitor operations to ensure that health and safety standards are met. Prepare and maintain equipment for safe daily operations (i.e. fuel, grease, etc.) Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Adhere to B&F Code of Conduct Required Skills & Abilities High school diploma or equivalent 3+ years' experience in wet or dry utility heavy equipment operator experience Extensive knowledge and ability to install sewer, water, storm drain, and dry utility conduit. Experience in underground utilities or heavy civil construction. Understanding of construction safety and OSHA requirements Ability to follow traffic laws, ordinances, and rules applicable to heavy equipment operation. Good listening and comprehension skills, follows instructions, takes responsibility for own actions. Establish and maintain effective work relationships. Able to work nights, weekends, and overtime as required. Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, reach, twist, climb, and lift 50 pounds. Ability to work outside. Reliable transportation Ability to understand Arizona's blue stake laws and colors coding.
