Prepares a variety of program-mandated documents and reports for the purpose of documenting activities and complying with district and/or legal requirements
Operate various pieces of equipment to include mini, medium and large size excavators, skid steer loader, backhoe and dozer.
Shoot grades, set up and use pipe laser, sight level, transit, etc.
Valid driver's license.
Minimum of 5 years as a wet utility foreman in underground utility industry.
Knowledge of blueprints, specifications, Codes and Regulations.

About This Role:
This position works with a team of other employees responsible for the safe and efficient operation of motorized heavy equipment at the landfill to load and move trash and other materials, compact trash, and place cover in accordance with established standards and regulatory requirements. Other routine projects include constructing temporary roadways, repairing and maintaining stormwater management features and environmental control systems, and general landfill maintenance. This position requires the ability to work effectively as part of a team and engage customers in a courteous manner. This position will be assigned to the County Landfill and will report directly to a Crew Lead and the Assistant Superintendent for Operations.
Responsibilities in this job may include, but are not limited to:
Safely operate heavy equipment, including bulldozer, track loader, or landfill compactor, to load and move trash and other materials, compact trash, and place cover in accordance with established standards and regulatory requirements;
Operate other vehicles and equipment such as a motor grader, articulated truck, skid steer, excavator, and rubber tire loader;
Perform equipment and vehicle inspections and minor preventative maintenance;
Write and maintain accurate and timely logs, records, and reports;
Read, understand, and abide by all transportation and safety regulations and other applicable requirements, policies, and procedures pertaining to the assigned work;
Assist with load inspections and site cleanliness; and
Follow supervisor's direction, work as a team, and communicate effectively and respectfully with coworkers and the public at all times.
Minimum Requirements:
Minimum 8th-grade education is required.
Minimum 1 year of full-time experience operating motorized heavy equipment is required.
Preferences:
High school diploma is preferred.
Minimum 3 years of full-time work experience operating a bulldozer, track loader, or landfill compactor in the solid waste industry or construction industry is preferred.
Experience in a public-facing customer service role is preferred.
Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is desired but not required.
Special Requirements:
Driver's License Requirement: Possessing and maintaining a valid Virginia Driver's License is required.

Work Schedule:
The typical work schedule for this position is 37.5 hours per week with eligibility for overtime and holiday pay. Work schedules are determined based on coverage of County Landfill operations. Working on either a rotating or fixed shift basis, which includes weekends, some holidays, and overtime is required. Shift days and hours are subject to change based on business needs. Working outside of regularly scheduled hours with little or no notice may be required in the event of inclement weather or a department or County emergency.

What You'll Do:

Overview
Team members classified in a heavy equipment operator position shall perform skilled types of work focusing on the safe operation of heavy equipment used in the construction and maintenance of public works projects, industrial construction, energy construction projects and facilities, environmental services, and railroad projects.
Safety training by the company will be required for all team members. Out-of-town work is probable and may require travel of up to three weeks away from home at a time. Dependable attendance and punctuality are critical.
Responsibilities
+ Knows the safety procedures and performs thorough review of the operator/user manuals prior to operating any power tools or equipment.
+ Performs laborer tasks as required and directed by field leadership.
+ Operates heavy duty construction equipment safely and efficiently, including but not limited to loaders, graders, crawler excavators, bulldozers, backhoes, and scrapers.

Progression
Team members will be assessed on their progression and capabilities through an annual evaluation or an out of cycle evaluation. Once the self and supervisor evaluations are completed, the performance evaluation is reviewed by the workforce development planning group with respect to the areas of safety, quality, customer service, training record, hours of equipment operation and years in position/tenure. Kwest General superintendents and the director of field operations will recommend for a team member's classification compensation advancement or reclassification. Kwest Group president will review each recommendation and give the final approval for a classification compensation advancement or reclassification. An approved recommendation is then forwarded to the Director of HR for execution of advancement or reclassification. The team member's foreman and general superintendent will discuss with the team member regarding their evaluation and any change in compensation or classification.
Education and Qualifications
+ Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
+ The average work week would consist of 5 ten-hour days, but schedule will be dictated by project needs.
+ Must be able to work out of town, sometimes out of state, and for lengths of time, such as the job would dictate.
+ A high school diploma, GED, or trade school certificate is preferred.
+ Your skills and certifications are valuable, and Kwest recognizes it. Any special certifications or skills that are constructive to the position responsibilities will be taken into consideration when reviewing wage classification.

The Equipment Operator will operate heavy machinery for construction, demolition, or excavation projects.
Duties / Responsibilities:
Operates construction, excavation, hauling, and maintenance equipment including backhoes, front-end loaders, bulldozers, excavators, or grade tractors.
Prepares construction sites for building, demolition, or excavation.
Uses excavating machinery to dig holes and trenches used in structural concrete.
Transports tools and other construction equipment to and from construction sites.
Uses equipment to prepare building sites for exterior site concrete such as parking lots, driveways, sidewalks, and loading docks.
Operates machinery used to trench and excavate pits. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Assist the crew as needed when not operating equipment.

Suffolk, VA Full Time Construction, Industrial, and Manufacturing Mid Level **Job Title:** **Heavy Equipment Operator - Hampton Roads** Department: Grading Reports to: Project Superintendent **Major Role and Purpose**: * Operates Heavy Industrial Equipment such as Dozers, Excavators, Backhoes or other grading or excavating equipment to move and level materials, such as dirt and gravel.
**Description of Duties**:
* Monitors the activity within the site.
* Follow all safety policies and procedures.
* Perform all other duties deemed necessary or assigned.
* The job duties described herein are not exhaustive and may be supplemented.
* Knowledge of how to operate Heavy Industrial Equipment.
* Spread dirt in fill area.
* Clear and grub area being worked.
* Run a fill area.
* Read slope stakes.
* Cut slope to the job's specifications (type of slope, ditch cut depths and fill section heights).
* Direct trucks where to dump load.
* Dress and clean up job at the completion.
* Water, oil, grease, service and make normal operating adjustments to equipment.
* Ability to operate equipment in a safe and consistent manner.
* Willingness to work nights and weekends.
* Perform all other duties deemed necessary or assigned.
**Education:**
* High School Diploma Preferred.
**Preferred Experience:**
* 3-5 Years Operating Various Heavy Equipment.
* Valid Driver's License.
* Understand GPS grade control.
* Knowledge of grades.
