Basic Purpose
Positions in this job family are responsible for operating power equipment and performing related tasks in the maintenance and repair of highways.
Typical Functions
Operatesequipment or heavy machinery such as trucks, tractors, road graders, bulldozers, front- end loaders, cranes, backhoes, paint machines, semi-trailers, snow removal equipment and other equipment as needed.
Performs minor repairs and maintenance on equipment and facilities.
Repairs failures in the roadway shoulders or bridge decks.
Repairs and/or replaces signs, posts, guardrails and fences.
Provides traffic control assistance using a stop/slow sign or flag to direct highway traffic.

Special Requirements
Possession of a valid Oklahoma driver's license at time of employment.
Some agencies may require possession of a valid Oklahoma commercial driver's license, class A or B with appropriate endorsements referenced in United States Department of Transportation Title 47, Chapter 6, Section 101 et seq. at time of appointment. Persons appointed to positions at the Oklahoma Department of Transportation or the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority must possess or obtain a commercial driver's license, class A, no later than five months from the date of appointment. ODOT employees are required to have a CDL tank vehicle endorsement. Applicants must take and pass drug test prior to appointment. Such tests will be administered through the appointing agency. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic Supervisor will support equipment maintenance and repair operations for U.S. Army Reserve missions. This position is responsible for supervising, diagnosing, repairing, rebuilding, and maintaining a variety of heavy power equipment, ensuring all machinery operates safely and efficiently in accordance with contract requirements and Army standards.
This position will analyze malfunctions and perform complex repairs and equipment such as cranes, bulldozers, scrapers, power shovels, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, dredges, pumps, compressors, and pneumatic tools. The mechanic inspects and tests equipment to identify defects, disassembles and reassembles components using hoists and hand tools, and examines parts for excessive wear or damage. Duties also include replacing defective engines and subassemblies, conducting tests to verify operating efficiency, and welding broken or damaged parts as needed.
In addition to hands-on repair duties, this position provides direct supervision to personnel engaged in equipment maintenance, cleaning, assembly, and disassembly. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic Supervisor may also assist in repairs and maintenance of specialized machinery such as drilling, stripping, or continuous mining equipment. ️ What You'll Do:
* Tasked to order parts and build a relationship with equipment venders.
* Performs repairs and assigned preventive maintenance services. Performs inspections, diagnosis and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment. Equipment currently on site. (Landfill Compactors, Dozers, Excavators, Motor grader, Haul trucks, Tippers, Site trucks) Utilizes vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs.
* Performs service calls for emergency breakdowns. Breakdowns may occur on the working face of the landfill.
* Comfortable with operating and working on Heavy Equipment Previous field experience is a plus Conducts safety checks on vehicles and equipment.
* Completes required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
* Reviews, completes or assigns repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
* Performs maintenance related work as required.
* Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards.
* Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
* Ability to effectively communicate needed repairs or tasks.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
* Extensive physical activity. Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds.
* Work environment may be indoors in a shop, or outdoors to repair equipment on the landfill. Usually, well-lighted and ventilated. Sometimes necessary to work in awkward or tight positions and to handle greasy or dirty tools. These factors require following basic safety precautions.
Requirements:
* Minimum 2 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Must have experience working on yellow iron/heavy equipment.
* Must provide own personal tools.
