ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS * Operates heavy equipment of various sizes and types including loader, backhoe, grader, oil distributor, hi-lift, etc. * Operates dump and other trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various materials or equipment. * Operates dump truck with a snowplow and salt/cinder spreader in the removal of ice and snow. * Operates trucks pulling a float or other equipment. * Maintains a variety of records relating to materials hauled, work performed, job location, hours worked, etc. * Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including pavement patching, ditch digging, shoveling, jack hammering, chain sawing, and other physical labor necessary. * Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use. * Performs routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment. * Operates light and medium-sized construction and power equipment, such as air compressor, brush chipper, brush hog, chain saw, jackhammer, or mechanized broom. * Performs all duties in accordance with safety policies and procedures. * Assists in the training of new or lower-level employees to increase their skills and promote safety in the maintenance and construction of roads and storm drainage facilities. * Places traffic control devices and performs duties as flagger for work zone traffic control in compliance with the County's standards and guidelines. * Performs some work as part of the County's Emergency Operations Plan. * Serves on various employee or other committees as assigned. * Performs work at assigned location during specified business hours. * Performs related additional duties as required and assigned.
