Responsibilities include operating and maintaining heavy equipment to support facility operations and maintenance at the Detroit Arsenal. Duties include the safe and efficient operation of machinery, such as loaders, backhoes, street sweepers, and forklifts, for tasks including material handling, landscaping, earthmoving, snow removal, and site preparation. Ensures compliance with safety standards, performs routine equipment inspections, and assists with general facility upkeep as needed. This position will report to the Grounds Supervisor. Job Summary Detroit Salt Company is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator (Haul Truck Driver) to transport salt and other materials within the mine. This role includes loading, hauling, and unloading materials in a timely and efficient manner while adhering to all safety regulations and operational procedures. The position requires excellent driving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in an underground environment. Duties and Responsibilities Work responsibly and follows all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Is alert to hazards and changing conditions on all mine property. Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently underground; must include the operation of a haul truck in all areas of underground mining operation. Perform basic conveyor, crusher, and screen deck maintenance and adjustments including but not limited to changing of idlers, screens, greasing of bearings, replacement of guarding, and clearing of dump chutes. Perform basic service to mobile equipment including but not limited to adding fluids, removing/replacing covers, and greasing. Assist maintenance department with maintenance tasks under the direction of maintenance personnel. Operate other equipment and perform other duties in mining/crushing/screening/support functions. Inspect finished work and ensures required specifications are met. Inspect and perform daily routine housekeeping as necessary to ensure a clean and safe work area. Completes assigned paperwork accurately and on time. Keeps accurate records of mining data. Communicate with management, supervisor, and others as needed to communicate safety and production concerns. Must be able to cross-train and multi-task with varied skill sets and functions. Must uphold company and MSHA rules and regulations. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Preferred experience in heavy equipment, such as wheeled loader, skid steer, or articulated truck. High school diploma/GED preferred. Prefer demonstrated mechanical and electrical skills. Must have demonstrated problem-solving skills. High degree of attention required to prevent injury to self and coworkers; promote a safe workplace. Must be able to speak, comprehend, and read English. Must be able to attend work on a regular schedule. Must be able to pass physical and drug test. Physical Requirement Must be able to work safely in varying temperatures in a production/warehouse workplace and outside year-round. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50+ pounds regularly.
