Operates grappler, bulldozer, scraper, compactor, and off road trucks to move earth, gravel, sand, and other materials for large construction and maintenance projects and landfill operations; and operates mechanisms to establish rough grades or to smooth and compact surfaces in preparation for pavement, construction, or other work. Drives large tractor-trailer rigs and low-boys to transport solid waste between transfer stations and the landfill or to move construction equipment to and from job sites; positions vehicle to allow for the most efficient and effective loading or unloading of equipment and materials; and secures all doors, gates, and fasteners to prevent spillage or loss of load. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Participates in the maintenance of city streets, city streets, bridges, rights-of-way, sidewalks, drainage systems and related facilities. Safely operates heavy equipment including but not limited to excavators (2 ton to 40 ton), bulldozer, skid-steer, backhoe, front-end-loader, trench loader, hydrovac-jetter truck, dump-truck, grapple truck, street sweeper, bucket truck, mulching equipment, bush hog, forklift, mowers, water truck, 10-yard sanitation truck, full-sized heavy duty work vehicles, wood/tree chipper, utility task vehicle, etc. Performs a variety of stormwater maintenance and construction activities including the maintenance and repair of city streets, bridges, rights-of-way, sidewalks, and drainage systems. The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating a variety of equipment such as front-end loader, dozers, graders, rollers, excavators, dump trucks or other equipment to lift and transport bulk materials to and from storage, to landfill site, to feed conveyors, hoppers, or chutes, and to load trucks or railcars.
