Job Description: The Heavy Equipment Operator will be responsible for operating various types of heavy machinery, including excavators, backhoes, motor graders, front-end loaders, and more. The operator will move, excavate, and grade earth, or erect structures as part of pipeline construction projects. This role requires collaboration with team members to ensure work is conducted safely and efficiently. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Safely operate construction equipment such as excavators, backhoes, front-end loaders, and similar machinery to move earth or materials. Start the engine, shift gears, operate pedals, and use steering to navigate equipment. Use CAT and DEERE controls to move levers for lowering, tilting, and filling buckets, and transporting materials to work sites. Perform routine maintenance such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning equipment. Work closely with the foreman and other crew members to meet project goals and ensure safe trench excavation. Conduct daily inspections of equipment and report any maintenance or repair needs. Ensure tools and equipment are safely stored after use. Other duties may be assigned. Qualifications: At least 5 years of experience operating construction equipment such as backhoes, excavators, and loaders. Previous experience in a related field such as truck driving or manufacturing. Ability to handle physical demands of the job, including heavy lifting and prolonged periods of standing, bending, and operating machinery. Strong communication skills to effectively work with team members and report issues. A strong work ethic and ability to follow safety protocols. Physical Requirements: This role requires prolonged periods of standing, sitting, bending, and operating heavy machinery. Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and operate foot pedals to control machinery. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Your opportunity: Heavy Equipment Operator Heavy Equipment Operator - What You Will Do You will work on-site at large commercial underground projects operating heavy equipment to excavate, grade and transport materials. Operate excavator (center, grade, speed), Loader (cut, grade, cleanup), Backhoe Prepare and maintain equipment for daily use (ie: fuel, grease) Calculate and set proper grades and elevations (ie: laser, floliner, grade stick, stringline) Change buckets and attachments Layout and install services, fire hydrants, storm drains, sewer, pipe connections and underground wet utilities Read and interpret blueprints and construction plans and specifications Perform equipment inspection and turn in written inspection equipment report Adhere to safety standards at all times including OHSA safe practices and company guidelines You will work on-site on jobs sites throughout Southern California (limited overnight travel), with an anticipated schedule 7am to 3:30pm depending on the job site. You will drive your own vehicle to job sites (mileage reimbursement provided). What you'll do as an Equipment Operator Attend new site Job Safety Analysis Safely operate and control assigned equipment Dig pits, trenches or potholes as directed by job plan Responsible for the site set-up and clean-up Load and unload tools, materials and equipment from truck Set up a safety perimeter Perform work in all weather conditions Other duties as assigned What you'll need To be 18 years of age or older Authorization to work in the United States for this company High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience Valid State driver's license (cannot be Provisional), including an acceptable driving record Experience with drill set up and design processes, is preferred Physical abilities & exposures Routinely: work alone in remote locations with arms above shoulder level, operate vehicle and heavy machinery, squeeze, fine hand motions, bend, stoop, stand, walk, climb stairs and lift greater than 55 pounds Occasionally: work in confined spaces, use ladder, keyboard and mouse Salary Range $25 - $32 / hour Why work with us Your career here is more than just a job - it's your pathway to opportunity.
