Jr. Davis Construction Company Inc. is seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong work ethic to fill the position of Heavy Truck/Diesel Mechanic. This individual will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance and repairs on heavy trucks and equipment, as well as diagnosing and repairing diesel/gas engines and heavy equipment. JDC is one of the largest heavy highway and civil construction firms in the state with over 900 employees, while still retaining a family business atmosphere. COMPENSATION : Based on experience. Our OJT (On the Job Training) will allow you to move up in our company as your skill set expands.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 2 years as heavy duty/diesel mechanic required
• Must have a safety first attitude. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures is required.
• Diagnose and repair heavy trucks and perform preventative maintenance tasks
• Repair and adjust gas and diesel engines
• Repair drive trains, electrical systems and components
• Repair and modify hydraulic systems and their components
• Identify and solve mechanical and electrical issues: services, motors, lights, air brakes, etc.
• Must be able to use diagnostic equipment to isolate mechanical failure and troubleshoot
• Operate vehicles to diagnose problems and to check if the vehicle is repaired
• Complete reports, work orders, order parts and perform other administrative duties
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs; frequently list and carry 25 hours
• Bend, twist, kneel, squat, reach, push and pull
• Maintain excellent attendance
• Ability to work as part of a team

Knowledge & Skills:

• A High School diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred.
• Ability to listen, follow directions, and have a willingness to continue to enhance skills.

Job Purpose: To analyze and diagnose problems, repair, and maintain class 6 - 8 trucks in both a field and in a shop environment with little or no supervision at times.

Roles, Duties, & Responsibilities:

+ Perform diagnostic tests for routine maintenance procedures to determine course of action.

+ Inspect, troubleshoot and repair various types of heavy-duty trucks and related equipment.

+ Works in both a field and a shop environment.

+ Travels to various sites to repair necessary equipment.

+ Test drive trucks before and after repairs.

+ Work in an expedient and professional manner.

+ Maintain open communication with the shop and field.

+ Adheres to all Hunter Contracting Co. safety policies, procedures, and instructions from management.

+ Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.

Work Qualifications:

+ Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

+ Must have the ability to read and understand service manuals.

+ Must own your own tools to perform the necessary repairs.

+ Communicates effectively and maintains good problem resolution.

Education & Work Experience Requirements:

+ Must possess a clean Driver's License.

+ Minimum of five (5) years of experience.

+ Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

POSITION SUMMARY: With direct supervision from a Lead Technician, Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Manager, a Maintenance Technician B performs repair and maintenance work on diesel and non-diesel equipment and trucks including, but not limited to, chassis components, vehicle refuse bodies and control systems, hydraulic electrical, air brake systems, general engine work, HVAC components, suspension, drive train and steering systems. The Maintenance Technician B may also perform basic tire work, such as replacement, tire rotation, and tread depth checks. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBLITIES:

• Maintains a working knowledge of, and moderate skill proficiency in, the following vehicle components and systems, with the ability to perform preventative and repair maintenance functions, both on-site and on the road.

+ Chassis component repair and maintenance.

+ Refuse bodies, including control, hydraulic and electrical systems; and air and hydraulic braking systems.

+ Engine repair and maintenance.

+ Suspension, drivetrain and steering systems.

+ Heating and air conditioning.

+ Performs line maintenance welding and fabrication.

+ Safely provides road service when necessary to ensure that the Company's equipment is returned to operation in a safe and efficient manner.

+ Identifies the source of the malfunctions using a variety of electronic tools.

+ Completes applicable Company training programs.

+ Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.

QUALIFICATIONS:

+ Basic understanding of work order labor time standards.

+ Prior experience with, or knowledge of, maintenance work to be performed on Classes 1-5 light/medium duty and heavy-duty Class 7-8 trucks, aircraft, or ships.

+ Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications (T1-T8) are a plus but not required.

+ Commercial Driver's License is a plus but not required.

+ Valid Driver's License.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

+ Minimum of 1 year of experience in a technician position demonstrating knowledge of both gasoline and diesel powered equipment diagnosis and repair or will be graduating from an accredited automotive college or technical school within the next 3 months.

+ Ability to perform basic inspections with limited supervision in some (not all required) of the following heavy truck, or automotive systems: suspensions & steering; general engine, transmissions, brakes, electrical, hydraulics, drive train, diesel emissions.
