Hebron Church company history timeline

1842

At the Eighth Session of the Appalachee Baptist Association held at Bethel Baptist Church in Walton County, Georgia on Saturday, September 17, 1842, Hebron Church was received by letter and delegates as a constituent member of that body.

1844

In 1844, Hebron asked to be dismissed from the Appalachee Baptist Association so they could unite with the Mulberry Baptist Association.

1901

Collins referred to his design as a "wooden cathedral." The new sanctuary was completed in 1901.

1903

In 1903, the first interment was made in the cemetery.

1911

In 1911, Hebron membership was 171 with a Sunday school enrollment of 65.

1930

On November 2, 1930, money received from the sale of the first bale of cotton from the church cotton crop amounted to $44 and was credited to the Young Peoples Sunday school class to be saved as a building fund for a new church.

1940

By the late 1940's, Hebron's Sunday School classes had outgrown the sanctuary.

1950

A fund drive was begun and construction started in September, 1950.

1955

Levi Thomas, church membership grew to 160 during his 10-year tenure before Doctor Isaiah H. McPherson became pastor in November 1955.

1956

Bessie Ernst, and Robert Cave was elected as Sunday School Superintendent for the new Hebron Baptist Mission. It was not until the calling of Howard Alexander in 1956 to the pastorate of Sand Run Baptist Church that Bro.

1957

J.O. McNeal was called as the first full-time pastor of Hebron Baptist Church in October 1957.

1958

4, 1958, the new mission began meeting for Sunday School on Aug.

1959

In Jan., 1959, new meeting facilities were secured as the Hebron mission began renting the nearby Masonic Lodge for its weekly meetings.

Sunday school rooms, a fellowship hall and a kitchen were added in 1959.

1962

Shortly thereafter, Hebron was accepted in Sept. of 1962 into the North Bend Baptist Association.

1964

Hebron Missionary Baptist Church,” grew to its largest membership to date (415) and even acquired additional property in 1964 for a parking lot to accommodate the growing congregation.

1965

Drake resigned in 1965 to serve as superintendent of the Baptist Convalescent Center in Newport, KY.

1966

Gayle Toole was called as the third pastor in Jan., 1966.

1967

Under his leadership a loan was secured in 1967 to build a new sanctuary, phase two.

1978

In August of 1978, the average weekly Sunday school attendance was 116.

1979

Taylor & Boody have been neighbors of the church since 1979.

1980

In 1980, a 35×70 foot Sunday school annex, fellowship hall and kitchen were added to the previous building.

1983

Gregory Harris followed Doctor McPherson, becoming pastor on September 10, 1983.

Two morning worship services were begun in September 1983.

1984

In 1984, the church purchased 5-1/2 acres of land to build a new auditorium.

1992

Beginning in 1992, a 2.4 million dollar educational building with a gymnasium, commercial kitchen and preschool department was begun.

1996

That search came to an end in February 1996, when Joseph F. Johnson became pastor.

1998

In June 1998, a new children’s educational building was completed and Larry and Ethel celebrated their 20th anniversary at Hebron.

In 1998, the church purchased Northeast Atlanta Christian School and changed the name to Hebron Christian Academy.

2000

A 24-hour, 7-day-a-week prayer ministry was begun in 2000.

2001

And in January 2001, heeding humility to the call, the church name became Mt Hebron Missionary Baptist Church.

In March 2001, the membership of Hebron accepted a proposal from Taylor & Boody Organbuilders to build a new pipe organ for the sanctuary of the church.

2002

In 2002 ground was broken for a new Family Life Center and it also marked the first year the children's Summer Day Camp.

2003

In June 2003, the process of moving to Limaburg Rd. took Hebron Baptist Church to 3340 Logan Road, a temporary home that would suffice until the completion of construction on a new home.

Starting in 2003, the interior of the sanctuary received a much needed renovation.

2004

29, 2004, Hebron Baptist Church opened its doors for the first Sunday worship gathering at the new Limaburg Road campus.

2006

In March 2006, the church held its first worship service in its new 4000 seat Worship Center.

In early 2006, installation of the new organ began.

2022

The Steadfast Ministry invites women of all ages to attend an informational meeting which will take place on May 3, 2022, at 6:45 PM in D100.

**Mentors will be conducting their one-on-one meetings with their new mentees in August of 2022.
