Heidrick & Struggles International company history timeline

1953

Heidrick & Struggles was founded in 1953 by Gardner Heidrick and John E. Struggles, both former employees of the management consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton.

1955

In Spring of 1955, Heidrick & Struggles hired Spencer Stuart, who would eventually leave to start his own executive search firm, Spencer Stuart.

1957

In 1957, Heidrick & Struggles began expanding outside of the Midwest with offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York City.

1968

In 1968, the firm established an office in London, and now has more than 50 offices in six continents.

1978

By 1978 the company's board of directors was convinced that Roche should be appointed the chief executive of Heidrick & Struggles.

1981

By the end of fiscal 1981, over 80 percent of the company's searches were placements for the above positions.

1995

With the demand for talented senior executives increasing at a dramatic rate, the company since 1995 has grown significantly, with worldwide revenues increasing at a compounded rate of 25 percent annually.

1998

By 1998 the company's offices in Europe generated over $125 million in revenues, second only to its network of offices scattered throughout the United States.

1999

In 1999, the firm became a publicly traded company on the NASDAQ.

2012

In 2012 the firm acquires Senn Delaney, the undisputed global leader of corporate culture shaping.

2017

Heidrick & Struggles publishes Accelerating Performance in 2017, introducing a new framework for understanding organizations’ and leaders’ performance.
