Skilled Laborer Dept/Div: Public Works FLSA Status: Non-Exempt General Definition of Work Performs intermediate skilled trades work maintaining and replacing pavement, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Public Works Crew Supervisor. Qualification Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Assists with 24 hour on call for emergency snow removal, pre-treating roads with brine and also making of the brine. Assists with crack sealing used for fixing roads and using the crack sealer to seal splits and patches in the road. Assists with street sweeping for general sweeping city wide, and also for storm damage. Assists with building maintenance and equipment maintenance working and maintaining all city owned properties, and maintaining all equipment and tools used on jobs and projects. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities General knowledge of the principles and practices of operating and servicing heavy equipment; general knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation; general knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary for the proper operation of various maintenance equipment; general knowledge and ability to identify and handle infectious and hazardous waste properly; skill and care in the operation of several types of heavy equipment; ability to operate vehicles and equipment fitted with automatic transmission; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; mechanical aptitude; ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
