The Sand Blasting Laborer supports the powder coating process by preparing metal and other surfaces using sand blasting equipment. This role is responsible for cleaning, smoothing, and preparing parts to ensure proper adhesion of powder coating finishes, while maintaining a safe and organized work area. Key Responsibilities Set up, operate, and shut down sand blasting equipment according to company procedures. Prepare surfaces by removing rust, scale, old paint, and other contaminants using abrasive blasting media. Inspect parts before and after blasting to ensure they meet quality and surface preparation standards. Mask or protect areas of parts that should not be blasted, as required. Handle, load, and unload parts onto racks, hooks, or carts for blasting and powder coating. Clean and maintain blasting booth, hoses, nozzles, filters, and related equipment. Monitor blast media levels and notify supervisor when supplies need replenishing. Follow all safety procedures, including use of PPE (respirators, face shields, gloves, hearing protection, etc.). Assist in other shop duties as needed, including basic prep and support for the powder coating line. Report equipment issues, safety hazards, and quality problems to the supervisor promptly. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent (preferred, but not always required). Previous experience in sand blasting, surface preparation, or industrial painting/coating is a plus but not required for entry-level.
