Henderson County Public Schools company history timeline

1869

1869, March 15th The Henderson High School was incorporated, and on the same day, an act to organize and establish a system of public schools in Henderson was passed.

1869, June 1st An act was passed incorporating the Henderson Public School and authorizing by a majority vote of the citizens the issue of a fifty thousand dollar city bond for the purpose of erecting a suitable building for school purpose.

1872

The Oak Forest School was built around 1872 on property across from the present Oak Forest Cemetery on School House Road.

1884

In 1884 J.C. McCall taught one term at the Lawler house.

In 1884 the B.A. Tucker school was begun at Scotts Hill.

1885

In the fall of 1885, the trustees bought four acres of land and built a two-story building in the southeast part of town.

1902

An announcement was made in a Lexington paper on June 21, 1902.

1928

In 1928, the eight or more schools in the Dana area were combined.

1960

In 1960, the high schools in Henderson County were consolidated, and Dana contained grades one through eight.

1974

In 1974, a new facility was constructed after Dana School was destroyed by fire.

1993

At the time of its closing in 1993, many of Edneyville High School’s teachers moved to North Henderson High School and Apple Valley Middle School and continued on with the strong tradition of the small, close knit school that still to this day holds a special place in their hearts.

2018

In August of 2018, county and school leaders celebrated the beginning construction on a new school building with a groundbreaking ceremony.
