Perform test procedures of moderate/high complexity requiring the exercise of independent judgement and responsibility in those specialties in which they are qualified by education, training and experience. Responsibilities: Must demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and be proficient troubleshooting all applicable instruments/procedures in the department. Provides support to the department in the areas of quality control, troubleshooting complex problems, customer support, instrument and equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement and the completion of special projects as assigned. Perform and report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) ensuring that applicable quality control requirements are met. A generalist Medical Laboratory Scientist (MT/CLS/MLS) or Laboratory Technician (MLT/CLT) performs a wide range of medical laboratory tests used to diagnose, treat and prevent disease. Assumes responsibility for accuracy of testing, and uses technical knowledge and a theoretical understanding of instruments and test methodologies to validate procedures and ensure conformity to federal and/or state regulatory standards. Understands and applies the correct control measures and protocols in cases of abnormal results, escalating discrepancies as appropriate. Communicates critical results, delayed testing, and instrument/LIS downtimes with clinical and medical staff when necessary.
