Shift: Part-Time, 18 hours per week, 11AM-11:30PM/3PM-3:30AM weekdays and rotating weekends Responsible for performing all CT procedures without requiring constant supervision. Can exercise independent judgment and initiative to produce high quality diagnostic images, using proper positioning technique and radiation safety practices (ALARA). The Technologist must have the ability to set up and monitor the operations of computerized tomography equipment such as the computer, optical disc unit, gantry, power injector, and use laser images to produce hard copy images(when needed). Must have and understanding of protocols and procedures used in CT scanning. Work directly with patients, physicians and fellow associates. Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide care to the age group(s) served. -
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
* Perform computed tomography procedures.
* Collaborate patients clinical history with procedure, assuring information is documented and available for the Radiologist.
* Prepares patient for procedures; providing instruction to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and help minimize anxiety.
* Operates computed tomographic equipment and accessories (perform tube warm-ups and calibrations daily).
* Select appropriate program for the desired protocol.
* Position patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patients ability and comfort. - Immobilize patient as required for appropriate examination.
* Applies principles of radiation protection, when appropriate, to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
* Assume responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patient during procedures.
* Assist the Radiologist/Physician during interventional CT procedures, and assumes aseptic surgical techniques.
* Understand methods and is capable of performing venipuncture (using aseptic techniques). - In agreement with institutional policies prepares, identifies and/or administers contrast media.
* Evaluate images for technical quality, manipulates display parameters, has knowledge of Retrospective Reformations, Post Processing Reformations and FMPR s (provides hardcopy films when necessary).
* Maintain archival storage of digitized data as appropriate.
* Initiate basic life support actions when necessary.
* Provide patient education. - Assist in maintaining patient records, respecting confidentiality and Institutional policies.
* Assume responsibly for assigned area and reports equipment malfunctions.
* Provide practical instruction for students.
* Maybe responsible for the control of inventory and purchase of supplies for assigned area.
* Maintain knowledge of and observes Universal precautions.
* Understand and applies patient relation skills.
* Perform routine cleaning of all CT equipment.
* Pursue appropriate continuing education.
* Positively identifies patients using 2-patient identifiers.

* Certified BLS Provider specializing in Basic Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 3 Months (90 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.
* Technician Radiologic Technologist specializing in Computed Tomography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained within 18 Months (1 1/2 year) of hire date or job transfer date.

Job responsibilities include performing computerized tomographic procedures for the diagnosis of disease and injury according to protocols established by radiologists. - Prepare and position patients and select anatomic and technical parameters accurately. - Prepare and administer contrast media and/or medications within the accepted scope of practice and applicable state and federal regulations. - Observe patient during procedure and report abnormal activity. Monitor protocols and recommend updates or refinements as warranted. - Follow radiation safety procedures and guidelines.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
* High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
CERTIFICATION/LICENCES REQUIRED:
* BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
* One or more of the following required:
o Nuclear Medical Tech credentialed from the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Shift: PT 20 hours per week; 11pm-7am, every other weekend, and holiday rotation The Registered Radiologic Technologist is responsible for supporting the Mission and Vision of Ascension by under general supervision, perform x-ray examinations as ordered by a licensed physician in accordance with established departmental protocols. Charged with patient responsibilities while the patient is in the department.
* Essential Functions
* Recognize the quality of the diagnostic services and the patient's well being as the primary responsibilities of the Radiographer.
* Prepare and stock work are as required to perform procedures as assigned/requested. Assure a safe and clean environment for patients at all times.
* Assure the "two step" identification of all patients and checks that any required diet preps have been followed before proceeding with any requested examinations. Explain the procedure and provides necessary instructions to the patient.
* Transfer and properly position patients for examinations in order to obtain desired radiographic results according to physician orders and in accordance with departmental protocols. Conduct all examinations safely in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
* Produce optimal images at all times considering the size and abilities of the patient to fully cooperate as required.
* Produce optimal images and reviews all radiographs for optimal positioning exposure, patient identification and marker before releasing the patient.
* Assist physicians in performance of examinations by mixing and pouring contrast media, administering opaque media, holding and turning patients, assisting in sterile procedures, and other related duties as required. Assist in performing first aid as necessary.
* Secure and return supplies. Maintain room stock.
* Report equipment failure to supervisor and takes appropriate actions as directed.
* Provide patient preparation instructions to patients, physicians, and/or nursing personnel when indicated.
* May perform ancillary clinical functions such as venipuncture, I.V. contrast administration, bladder catheterization, and enemas.
* May be responsible for specific areas of instruction to students and new personnel.
* Check the accuracy of all order entry/charges compared with the physicians' orders and procedures completed.
* Participate in quality assurance activities and any data collections required by the department.
* Cooperate with all department personnel in a positive and professional manner.
* Adhere to prescribed standards for radiation safety.
* Non-Essential Functions
* Serves on specific committees dealing with the use of radiation as requested.
