Under the guidance and direction of the Doctors of Optometry, responsible for demonstrating an understanding of the concepts used in Optometric care. PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Perform visual preliminary testing including but not limited to, these skill sets: auto-refraction, inter-ocular pressure, neutralizing prescription eyewear, blood pressure, visual acuity, motility testing, pupil assessment, confrontation fields, anterior chamber angle assessment, and dilation.
* Apply critical thinking within the preliminary testing skills for the purpose of further testing needs. Applies anatomical and optics knowledge to care for the patient's visual needs.
* Responsible to complete assigned online courses as scheduled.
* Must sit for and receive notification of passing the Certified Paraoptometric (CPO) exam within 15 months of beginning the Optometric Assistant Apprentice program.
* Responsible for accurate electronic medical record keeping.
* Educate patients on contact lens handling, wearing schedule, and care.
* Escort patients throughout the exam process and transfer authority to appropriate department.
* Adhere to all compliance guidelines for all relative governing bodies.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
* A high school diploma or GED
* The ability to perform basic math skills
* The ability to accurately enter information in electronic medical records
* The ability to read and understand information presented in writing
* The ability to listen and understand information, and the ability to communicate information so others will understand.
* Previous patient care/customer service experience preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
