    Powder Coatings Operator (Powder Associate) Schedule: Sunday-Thursday, 3rd Shift (11:00 PM - 7:30 AM) Pay Range: $ 19.00-$22.00; including shift premium $ 21.85-$25.30 per hour. Position Summary The Powder Coatings Operator is responsible for verifying, documenting, assembling, mixing, blending, and grinding raw materials to produce accurate batches of powder coatings that meet customer specifications. This role includes cleaning and assembling production equipment, maintaining product quality, and collaborating closely with the Quality Control (QC) Lab and production team. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Accurately follow batch ticket instructions to manufacture specific products. Measure and assemble materials using scales and other equipment required for batch production. Follow setup guidelines to establish optimal starting points for production runs. Complete all documentation, including batch tickets, with accuracy and attention to detail. Enter production data accurately into the ERP system. Clean, maintain, and safely store equipment; follow housekeeping and sanitation procedures. Communicate effectively with QC, Supervisors, Team Leads, and Powder Associates to ensure smooth workflow and information sharing. Comply with all safety procedures, quality standards, and company work rules. Assist in hazardous waste disposal following proper training by the Environmental and Safety Coordinator or department supervisor; participate in annual refresher training. Perform other tasks and support additional duties as assigned by the Team Lead, Supervisor, or Manager. Qualification Requirements Education & Experience High school diploma or GED required; additional relevant training preferred. 3-12 months of related manufacturing experience preferred, especially with paint formulation, mixing procedures, mills, and extruders. Skills & Abilities Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team setting. Computer literacy is strongly preferred. Ability to follow and provide instructions positively and effectively. Forklift driving certification preferred; ability to operate a pallet jack required. Strong attention to detail with the ability to multitask. Clean and organized work habits; ability to handle large volumes of powder and raw materials. Basic math skills, including measurement conversion capabilities. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Our facility offers a state-of-the-art, climate-controlled environment supported by advanced HVAC systems that maintain optimal temperature and humidity levels. Physical Demands Frequent standing, walking, handling, and reaching. Regular sitting, balancing, and stooping; occasional climbing, foot-operated machine use, and reaching above shoulders. Regular lifting/moving of up to 65 lbs.; occasional lifting/moving of up to 100 lbs. Position Summary The Small Batch Maker is responsible for producing products that are assigned to the department due to the volume requirements of the customer being 100 gallons or less. The successful candidates will have an acceptable score on the math test. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Accurately follow batch ticket instructions to make specific products. Assemble accurate measurements of ingredients through use of scales and gather other equipment and ingredients as needed to make specific batch. Determine quality of pigment dispersion using Hegman grind gauge. Complete proper documentation (such as batch tickets) correctly and accurately. Enter data into computer. Mix, tint, and prepare samples for Quality Control. Comply with all quality, safety, and work rules and regulations. Clean up equipment and properly store equipment. As part of the housekeeping procedures, the employee may be involved with the disposal of hazardous waste. The initial training of how to properly dispose of hazardous waste will be performed by the Environmental and Safety department or the department supervisor. Annual training of the same will be performed by the EHS department. Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned. Qualification Requirements Preferred education level: a high school diploma and/or GED. It is desirable for the employee to possess additional specific related training. Preferred experience level: basic knowledge of paint formulation, mixing procedures, etc., and three to twelve months of related manufacturing experience with the ability to use several types of related equipment. Skills and Abilities Excellent communication skills. Willing to work in a team environment and contribute to group goals. Ability to receive and provide instructions in a positive manner. The ability to operate a forklift with forklift driving certification is strongly preferred and the ability to use a pallet jack. Must be detail oriented with the ability to multi-task. Clean work habits and some skill in handling large volumes of liquid and raw materials. Basic math skills and the ability to convert various measurements (i.e., gallons to quarts, pints to gallons, etc.) required. The ability to use the following tools preferred: grind plate, calculator, computer, pipe wrench, large and small scrapers, Allen wrench, box knife, bung wrench, manual drum truck, high speed mixer, sand mill, air mixer, screwdriver, and pliers. Position Summary The Quality Control Color Shader is responsible for performing all operations required to adjust wet properties and to tint a wide variety of liquid coatings in accordance with formula specifications. Successful candidates must achieve acceptable scores on both the color matching and math assessments. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Determine the type and quantity of colorants, gloss additives, and other modifiers required to match products to established physical standards. Operate a spectrophotometer (X-Rite) to obtain color measurements against stored standards and accurately interpret results. Prepare test panels, primarily through hand spraying, and visually evaluate panels for color accuracy and overall appearance. Collaborate with chemists and supervisors to determine corrective procedures and additives for out-of-specification products; update formulas to improve color accuracy in future batches. Enter final quality results into the data management system and utilize historical database data to tint and adjust production batches. Perform Quality Control laboratory testing, including viscosity, solids content, and weight per gallon measurements. Physically add tints, flatteners, and other additives directly to production tanks as required. Participate in housekeeping activities, including the proper disposal of hazardous waste in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements. Initial and annual hazardous waste training is provided by the Environmental and Safety Coordinator or department supervisor. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualification Requirements Preferred education level: Associate's or two-year college degree or equivalent. Preferred experience level: Three or more years of experience in batch creation, wet testing, color matching, and paint characteristics in a manufacturing setting. Skills and Abilities Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and evaluate performance metrics such as FRC (hits per batch), cycle time, and on-time delivery to drive Quality Control process improvements. Proficient in manipulating and analyzing QC data using Microsoft Excel and Access databases. Excellent color vision with strong attention to visual detail and quality standards. Advanced mathematical skills, including accurate metric-to-standard unit conversions. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for effective documentation and cross-functional collaboration. Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), ERP systems, and standard office equipment. Collaborative team player with a proven ability to work effectively in team-based environments. Demonstrated team-building strengths with strong interpersonal and communication skills. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Physical Demands Regularly required to communicate verbally and audibly in a manufacturing or operational setting. Frequently required to stand, walk, and move throughout the work area. Regular use of hands and fingers to handle, manipulate, and control objects, tools, or equipment. Required to sit, balance, stoop, and occasionally reach above shoulder level. Occasional operation of machinery using foot controls May be required to climb, balance, and reach overhead as part of job duties. Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 65 lbs. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Safety shoes, safety glasses, and flame-retardant uniforms or lab coats are required in production areas.
