SAFE DRINKING WATER INSPECTOR Job Location: Water Quality Division 1110 W Washington St, Phoenix, AZ 85007 Posting Details: Salary: Level 1: $45k - $50k Level 2: $50k - $60k Level 3: $65k - $70k Grade: 20, 21, 22 Closing Date: OPEN until filled Job Summary: The Environmental Science Specialist (Safe Drinking Water Inspector) will be responsible for inspecting Public Water Systems (PWSs) throughout Arizona to ensure compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). The inspection will require conducting a file review, researching permits, assessing monitoring history and conducting an onsite visit. The position will require writing compliance documentation based on deficiencies found during an inspection. Furthermore, the position will require responding to customer complaints about water quality. This position is based out of the Phoenix Office. Job Duties: Conducts inspections at regulated sites, file reviews, and complaint inspections throughout the state of Arizona with the expectation of travel across the state requiring overnight stays. Provides compliance assistance in the field and increases compliance at the time of inspection. Works with permitted facilities to reduce the number of open compliance cases and violations, and reduce the time required to return facilities to compliance. Reduces Safe Drinking Water Act violations and exceedances through inspections, outreach and compliance assistance. Provides innovative solutions to reoccurring compliance and permitting issues. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): Knowledge of Gmail, Google Meets, Google Drive, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc. Knowledge of Agency policies and processes, interpret State and Federal environmental regulations, environmental sciences and research and Safe Drinking Water Act. Knowledge of LEAN management/ Arizona Management System (results-driven management system focusing on customer service, transparency and accountability and continuous improvement) Skilled experience as a certified operator in water distribution and/or treatment is desirable. Skilled experience as an inspector of public water systems is desirable. Demonstrated ability to balance, prioritize, and organize multiple tasks. Detailed Description: This role will provide a high level of support for ongoing and new projects addressing environmental concerns of private sector projects, specifically in the Energy/Power Sector. We are seeking a candidate with experience with conducting wetland/water delineations, environmental permitting and regulatory compliance, working on projects including Clean Water Act (402, 404, 401, 316) permitting, federal/state/local stormwater permitting, permit compliance activities, oversight of water quality, compliance with stormwater and best management practices, endangered species, cultural resources, land use planning, and supporting technical studies. Experience conducting environmental site assessments (in accordance with ASTM E-1527-21 standard) and/or audits is also a plus. Our ideal candidate will have strong verbal and written communication skills, be highly organized and capable of working in a diverse team environment and handling multiple tasks with competing priorities. Job Responsibilities Expectations: * Drive health and safety practices throughout all aspects of work; * Perform field investigations of projects sites including wetland and stream delineations with functional assessments according to applicable methodologies, aquatic and environmental assessments, environmental sampling (i.e., soil, surface water, groundwater, etc.), and GPS/mobile data collection; * Perform environmental inspections and other site inspections, record and convey field observations accurately, communicate observations with contractors, clients, and regulatory parties; * Assist with the preparation of technical memoranda, reports, and electronic deliverables; * Coordinate with project managers, client service managers, and other project personnel from other disciplines; * Successfully manage and deliver tasks/projects on time, on budget, and with high quality; * Manage and execute work on compliance and permitting for industrial, commercial and/or retail facilities including program planning and development, permitting, and reporting; * Execute activities on small to large projects for federal, state, or local environmental permitting; * Perform work in a team environment or work independently with multiple project budgets and deadlines simultaneously; * Participate in improving company resources and tools to improve production and efficiency; * Implement BC's quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) process; and * Support business development pursuits related to client opportunities. Environmental Customer Coordinator As an Environmental Customer Coordinator you will be responsible for servicing customer accounts by managing customer inquiries regarding Arcwood services, including cost and proper documentation to ensure customer satisfaction. Essential Functions & Requirements: * Prioritizes health and safety by adhering to policies, processes, and maintaining safe practices at all times * Utilizes understanding of waste generator requirements to provide insights to customers * Manages customer inquiries and questions regarding Arcwood services, associated costs and proper documentation requirements; maintains an understanding of when to escalate customer issues * Builds sustainable relationships and establishes trust with customers through routine communication, ensuring customer satisfaction * Reviews, revises and completes waste profile forms, including but not limited to, reviewing SDS' and selecting proper RCRA hazardous waste codes; submits waste stream approval to appropriate department * Develops and utilizes basic chemical knowledge as it pertains to various waste types within the industry and the available disposal options * Utilizes a variety of tools to conduct research and partners with cross-functional teams to solve customer challenges, providing innovative solutions; coordinates with cross-functional teams to assign workflows to proper departments * Provides follow-up on pending and new approvals to perform scheduling as soon as possible * Reviews, prints, and sends new quotes to customers; requests and files signed copies of quotes * Submits samples with required documentation for testing and waste approval as needed * Conducts reviews of billing information for accuracy prior to finalization; resolves any billing discrepancies as needed * Maintains accountability for insides sales to increase revenue in assigned territory(ies) by working closely alongside Sales counterpart * Secures disposal outlets for customer waste that will be managed directly to third-party sites, including approvals, pricing and logistics as needed * Conducts profit and cost analysis on new and current business, ensuring that the most profitable disposal method is being used; identifies opportunities for increasing margin dollars * Receives waste orders from customers and completes appropriate shipping documentation, manifest, and labels as necessary * Manages non-conforming waste situations in a timely manner, including manifest discrepancies * Facilitates customer tours of Arcwood facilities as requested * Maintains thorough and updated customer records * Maintains the ability to travel to assigned territory annually, up to 10% * Takes on additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization Education: * Bachelor's degree (required); degree in environmental science or other technical field (preferred) Experience: * 2+ years of relevant experience, including but not limited to environmental, manufacturing, industrial or customer service sectors (required) -OR- * In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an Associates degree plus 2 years of relevant experience, including but not limited to environmental, manufacturing, industrial or customer service sectors (required) Competencies: * Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with internal and external customers * Strong communication skills via phone, with the ability to listen actively * Organizational and time management skills, with the ability to make strong decisions and execute patience under pressure * Self-directed with the ability to work on multiple projects with competing priorities and deadlines * Basic working knowledge of all Federal, State, and local laws and regulations pertaining to the Environmental Services industry and DOT/RCRA regulations * Strong working knowledge of computer programs and applications * Regular and predictable attendance to perform the functions and requirements of this role Benefits, Compensation, & Workforce Diversity: Arcwood offers competitive pay and bonus incentives.
