Your Role: As a Pullet and Production Intern, you will partner with members of our Flock Service, Manure, Maintenance and Service Crew to develop an advanced understanding of one of Herbruck's pullet and layer sites and how it operates within Herbruck's 10 locations throughout Michigan, Indiana, and Pennsylvania. Your responsibilities will encompass analyzing production input and output information, developing detailed project scopes, spearheading project kick-offs, curating and updating project timelines, streamlining farm site organization, inspecting for continuous improvement, championing on-site safety and compliance, and overseeing the completion of project close-out and reporting.
You will support Project Management:
* Contribute to the production team to ensure they achieve projects schedules, budgets, and production goals.
* Manage an incremental improvement project in a timely and accurate manner, monitoring overall projects progress according to the project scope and available resources. Participate in estimating the time, resources, and personnel to complete a project.
* After analyzing production input and output data, create project work scope with the Production Farm Manager, creating and maintaining overall project schedule and timeline. Participate in project kick-off and execute project work plan. Monitor and alert the project team when changes occur in the project scope and update schedules promptly.
* Alert Production Farm Manager if you become aware of changes that could affect the project scope, schedule, or work completion. Help coordinate and schedule any compliance or safety audits during project.
* Perform other related duties as assigned.
You will Problem-Solve:
* Ensure an organized farm throughout the project. Help coordinate and supervise production activities. Create and maintain daily reports of production activities.
* Review farm conditions and any effect they may have on other disciplines (including construction, maintenance, manure, flock service, compliance, and service crew).
* Prepare, schedule, and report on project close-out.
You'll Communicate and Network:
* Collaborate with various disciplines throughout Herbruck's. Regularly communicate with Pullet and Production Managers, Supervisors, Compliance, and Bird Crew to create, update, and understand any changes to project design, scope, schedule, and budget.
* Promote safety, encourage safe work practices, and rectify site hazards immediately. Support safety and compliance training, addressing safety audit findings and helping to create and update compliance training in Herbruck's University.
* Attend daily supervisor stand up meetings, compiling and communicating action items from various parts of the farm.
* Assist the Pull and Production Manager with other communication including project photography and documentation, data collection and analysis, and office administrative work.
* Understand what the deliverable needs to be to meet project needs and what it takes to make projects successful and communicate this to Herbruck's leadership at the close of your summer.
Your Qualifications:
* Your Education: You're enrolled in a program related to agriculture such as Animal Science, Poultry Science, Poultry Management, of Agribusiness.
* Your Experience: Ideally, you've worked in an agricultural environment previously, whether a small family farm or a more sophisticated operation. Otherwise, work experience dealing with animals, people, or machinery can prepare you well for Herbruck's. Please note that due to biosecurity regulations, you cannot own or have contact with birds or swine while interning with Herbruck's.

Job Description
In this position, you will be responsible for providing animal welfare at a beginner level. You will learn the different factors that affect the well-being and health of our birds.
Responsibilities:
Cleaning of barns and equipment.
Pest Management.
Maintenance and proper running of feed and water lines.
Collection and processing of manure.
At a basic level, monitor and manage activities that impact bird welfare, including lighting, airflow, and heat.
Basic understanding of equipment maintenance and repair, including feed, water lines, egg belts, manure belts, etc.
Involved in the collection of mislaid eggs.
Perform daily and weekly role activities at a basic level.

1. Machine Operation and Order Fulfillment (65%):
Prepare materials needed for order.
Ensure fulfillment of one/two areas below:
Review Order and list of materials and utilize RF Gun to locate and pick the materials.
Review order and weigh materials based on order needs - input information into machine that will prepare the batch.
Start-up machinery, review production schedule, load bags into machine and work with batcher to determine when to run the machine.
Ensure safety protocols are always followed.
2. Housekeeping (15%):
Ensure proper housekeeping and maintenance of worksite - Sweeping, vacuuming, removing packing materials/debris and equipment cleaning.
3. Staging and Shift Handoff (5%):
Prepare materials for next shift to ensure smooth transition and handoff with minimal downtime.
4. Quality Control (10%)
Ensure team is utilizing raw materials that are not expired and follow correct formulas.
Collect samples for the QC team and based on results, adjust batch as needed.
Ensure final product is meeting quality specifications.
5. Equipment & Materials (5%)
Communicate with Leadership and maintenance any equipment and materials needs, shortages, failures, required repairs, forklift inspection results etc.

Job Description
Production Associates perform any type of general labor that supports safely meeting production demand while maintaining housekeeping throughout the plant. The work is performed mostly outdoors subjecting Production Associates to inclement weather such as snow, rain, hot, and cold weather. Some areas of the plant and assigned tasks will be dirty and dusty. Production Associates perform work such as shoveling piles of material, unplugging chutes, as well as cleaning up areas of the plant around crushers, elevators, and conveyors as directed. Production Associates are also required to assist in routine plant maintenance on planned down days. This includes helping with basic repairs and maintaining production equipment including patching holes in chutes and ductwork, changing screens, and cleaning out bins and ductwork. Must be able to operate mobile equipment such as bobcat skid steers, front end loaders, dump trucks, and vacuum trucks as required (on the job training is provided for all equipment). Ensure the plant areas meet or exceed all safety standards for SGI and all work is performed safely.
Schedule
This is a full-time position. Shift worked is 3pm-11pm or 11pm-7am Monday through Friday with weekends and overtime
Qualifications
Must be 18 years old and have a High School diploma or G.E.D. Heavy industrial manufacturing background or construction experience is preferred but not required.

Processes and procedures employees are expected to follow are located in the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for each machine and function the associates perform. All associates are expected to read and understand the SOP prior to utilizing equipment or performing job-related tasks.
Typical job duties include:
-Perform simple operation using a production machine such as gang, sensitive, or automatic drill presses, various types of milling machines, special channeling machines, special deburring machines, broaching machines, punch presses, riveting machines, degreasing and washing machines and all other machines in the Production Machine Shop where setups and adjustments are made by others.
