The company was established on October 31, 1927, in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, with paperwork submitted on October 28.
1927: Hershey founded the Hershey Entertainment and Resorts Company as a way of distinguishing the financial operations of his famous factory from his other business ventures.
1930: With the popularity of his nearby amusement park growing by the year, Hershey finally felt it necessary to resume the hotel’s development.
Construction started in 1932 and lasted for nearly a year.
1932: Work began on Hershey’s new hotel, which featured a construction crew of 800 different craftsmen.
When the hotel finally debuted as “The Hotel Hershey®” on May 26, 1933, Milton S. Hershey celebrated with a lavish gala attended by more than 400 guests.
1933: Thanks to a mile winter, Witmer and the construction crew completed the hotel that May.

In 1933, The Hotel Hershey opened, becoming Hershey Estate's second hotel in Hershey.

He thus invested in such projects as the opening of the “Castilian Room” in 1935, as well as many additional improvements to the existing facilities.
He also financed the creation of a stunning garden in 1936, which featured 7,000 roses arranged in a variety of formal beds.
1936: Hershey continued improving both the hotel and its surrounding grounds by developing Hershey Gardens.
1957: To accommodate the growing demand for space at The Hotel Hershey®, the Hershey Entertainment and Resorts Company constructed several dozen more guestrooms throughout the building.
Thus, opening Hershey Motor Lodge on May 1, 1967, which was later to be called Hershey Lodge.
1991: The Hotel Hershey® joined Historic Hotels of America, the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation for recognizing the nation’s finest historic destinations.
By the fall of 1998, Hershey Lodge was the largest convention resort in Pennsylvania.
2001: The Spa at The Hotel Hershey opened for the first time.
Newkam served as CEO of HE&R until 2006, when Newkam was replaced by Ted Kleisner.
On January 1, 2013, William F. Simpson Jr. replaced Kleisner as the CEO of Hershey Entertainment and Resorts.
