Responsible for providing patient - oriented service in a clinical or front office setting; performs a variety of clerical and administrative duties related to the delivery of patient care, including greeting and checking in patients, answering phones, collecting patient co - pays and insurance payments, processing paperwork, and performing other front office duties as required in a fast - paced, customer - oriented clinical environment.
This position is full - time, Monday - Friday. Employees are required to work any 8-hour shift between the hours of 6:00 AM - 6:30 PM including the flexibility to work every other weekend and alternate holidays based on business need. Our office is located at 1201 SOUTH GRAND BLVD, SAINT LOUIS, MO, 63104.
Primary Responsibilities:
Communicates directly with patients and / or families either in person or on the phone to complete the registration process by collecting patient demographics, health information, and verifying insurance eligibility / benefits
Utilizes computer systems to enter access or verify patient data in real - time ensuring accuracy and completeness of information
Gathers necessary clinical information and processes referrals, pre - certification, pre - determinations, and pre-authorizes according to insurance plan requirements
Verifies insurance coverage, benefits and creates price estimates, reverifications as needed
Collects patient co - pays as appropriate and conducts conversations with patients on their out - of - pocket financial obligations
Identifies outstanding balances from patient's previous visits and attempts to collect any amount due
Responsible for collecting data directly from patients and referring provider offices to
confirm and create scheduled appointments for patient services prior to hospital discharge
Responds to patient and caregivers' inquiries related to routine and sensitive topics always in a compassionate and respectful manner
Generates, reviews and analyzes patient data reports and follows up on issues and inconsistencies as necessary
Maintains up - to - date knowledge of specific registration requirements for all areas, including but not limited to: Main Admitting, OP Registration, ED Registration, Maternity, and Rehabilitation units

Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma / GED (or higher) OR equivalent experience
1+ years of Customer Service experience in a hospital, office setting, customer service setting, OR phone support role
1+ years of computer experience
Ability to work any 8-hour shift between the hours of 6:00 AM - 6:30 PM from Monday - Friday including the flexibility to work every other weekend and alternate holidays based on business need

Check for the presence of allergies and the six rights of medication administration. Administer intramuscular, subcutaneous and intradermal injections and observe for side effects after administration. Record the injection in the record. Assist other staff in restraining a patient prior to venipuncture or injection as called upon by the nurse responsible for patient. 11. Perform all CLIA-waived tests (pregnancy tests, strep test, HIV, urinalysis, INR, blood glucose and peak flow, A1C, et. al.) 12. Test eyesight and hearing using the Snellen Eye Test / Hearing Test. 13. Obtain laboratory specimens and process for courier pick-up or perform point of care testing and record in patient's chart as necessary. 14. Perform electrocardiograms. 15. Obtain pre-certifications for procedures, new OB's and surgeries as needed. 18. Schedule referral appointments. Obtain prior authorization from insurance company if needed. Follow up on referral appointments by documenting in referral log. 19. MA will understand the importance of Quality measure guidelines. MA should take the initiative to have the patient fill out an ROI to obtain any pertinent medical records. MA should also communicate to provider if patient needs to satisfy a measure. 20. The MA will work their assigned clinical inbox daily and remain within the assigned threshold parameters. 21. Assist in training new Medical Assistants and externs as appropriate. 22. Perform other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: 1. Ability to work well with public and health care professionals. 2. Greet public in a professional, courteous manner at all times. 3.
