The Miniature Device Technologies Group develops highly customized tools and techniques required to carry out missions around the globe. We leverage our capabilities in mixed-signal application specific integrated circuits (ASICs), printed circuit board (PCB), embedded software, field-programmable gate array (FPGA), and signal processing design to create ultra-small, low-power solutions that exceed comparable commercial alternatives. This capability set provides the end user with a distinct advantage when conducting low-profile radio frequency (RF) communications, electronic countermeasures, and field-forward sensing. The boutique nature of these solutions, which reside between pure research and production, allow us to continually pursue new designs while still seeing our work used operationally. As a member of our group, you will: * Assist in the development of miniature wireless systems through contributions to the design, implementation and test of low power ASICs, embedded software applications, and board-level integration * Support evaluation of prototype devices and systems through laboratory testing. Develop and execute test plans to verify system performance. Identify and resolve challenging issues through active debugging. * Participate in field evaluation of applications. Rapidly modify relevant subsystem according to test results and in response to evolving technical and operational requirements * Document work in formal technical reports and informal memoranda. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: PROJECT PLANNING ASSISTANCE Assist with project planning and program analysis phase for new construction and renovation projects to assist in the development of detailed technical scopes, and comments on the schedules and budgets. PROJECT DESIGN & DESIGN REVIEW Provide troubleshooting expertise for existing electrical, lighting, and fire alarm systems that are not functioning properly to identify problems, determine appropriate resolution, and provide recommended corrective work in project program analysis format with clear definition of scope and probable costs. Provide detailed design documents (drawings and specifications) for construction projects for remodeling, renovation, repair, replacement, or new work. Provide detailed review of projects designed by outside professional services consultants (PSC's) and in-house designers. Duties/Responsibilities: Creates and maintains the documentation library including electrical schematics, drawings, models, bills of materials, quotes and engineering summaries utilizing CAD Systems and ERP software Prepare and complete accurate product documentation (i.e. manuals, work instructions, assembly instructions, data sheets, etc) Assist in development of capabilities for new and existing machines Conducts assigned projects ensuring that work is completed within budgetary and time constraints while meeting customer and contractual demands Assess customer requirements, evaluate engineering design, and create complete drawing packages Model components to define recommended parts procurement Creates drawings and troubleshoot issues on-site and in the field Collaborates with production, sales, and customers to evaluate the feasibility and technical aspects of project requests - including machine capability and capacity, project cost, tooling and machine requirements, etc. Goals and Expectations of the Intern: Complete 120 hours of work as an intern (8-15 hours per week, 15 weeks total) We are in the process of purchasing solidworks Electrical and this intern will be part of the library build out. Each electrical component will have a model and all meta data created. The student will be adding all terminal info to each part, voltage info, etc. Each project will have a variety of parts that need to be generated. Once the part level is complete they will take these parts build a 3D model and electrical schematic using this tool.
