Home Federal Bank originated in 1920 in Middlesboro, Kentucky as the Peoples Building and Loan Association.
When Home Federal opened its doors on April 1, 1924, George M. Hearne was President and Amos L. Wedgeworth was Manager.
Home Federal Savings Bank was founded in Spring Valley, Minnesota in 1934.
Home Federal Bank was founded by Buck Beltzer in May of 1935.

After serving Campbell County since the 70's, Home Federal Bank was fortunate enough to open a full service branch in 2003 in Jacksboro, Campbell County's county seat.
Home Federal Bank expanded again in 2004 with the addition of the Southwest facility located at the intersection of West Stolley Park Road and South Webb Road in Grand Island.
Jim Barlow was hired as President and Chief Operating Officer on February 20, 2009.
He was named President and Chief Executive Officer of Home Federal Bank on January 1, 2013, and he now serves as President and Chief Operating Officer of Home Federal Bancorp, Inc. of Louisiana, the holding company of Home Federal Bank.
On January 1, 2016, Home Federal Bank acquired Home Federal Savings & Loan Association of Nebraska.
