1945

1945: Rufus Hibbett founds Dixie Supply Co.

1949

1949: Dixie Supply Co. begins selling school and team apparel.

1952

1952: The company is renamed Hibbett & Sons after Ike and George Hibbett join their father's business.

1965

1965: Hibbett opens a second store in Huntsville, AL, under the name Dyess & Hibbett

1969

1969: The company name changes to Hibbett Sporting Goods, Inc.

1993

By the end of fiscal 1993, Hibbett recorded combined sales of $32.03 million from 34 Hibbett Sports stores and four Sports Additions stores.

1994

By the end of fiscal 1994, company sales had grown to $40.12 million from the operation of 41 Hibbett Sports and eight Sports Additions stores.

1996

In October 1996 Hibbett completed an initial public offering (IPO) of its shares of common stock for $16 per share and traded on the NASDAQ under the symbol HIBB. The company accelerated its rate of new store openings to take advantage of the growth opportunities in its target markets.

During fiscal 1996, sales from Hibbett's 67 stores increased 28.3 percent to $67.1 million.

1997

Hibbett opened 21 Hibbett Sports stores and one Sports & Co. superstore, thereby making the company the operator of 77 stores at the end of fiscal 1997; sales peaked at $86.4 million.

Advertising in the sports pages of local newspapers served as the foundation of its promotional program; in 1997 the major portion of the company's publicity budget was spent in this way.

1999

1999: Hibbett surpasses all previous records for increases in net income, net sales, and number of store openings.

2004

Sales for 2004 were expected to be about $375 million, setting a new record.

2012

A combo of the 2012 Flyknit Racer and the Nike Air Max Pre-Day, the new Nike Air Max Flyknit Racer drops 7/14 at Hibbett | City Gear.

2015

In January 2015, Hibbett Sports reported net annual sales of US$913M on total assets of US$452M.

2017

In August 2017, the company announced the launch of its new e-commerce site, hibbett.com.
