Hickok Co company history timeline

1920

As it turned out, the Hickoks’ faced an even bigger problem, a lawsuit threatened by Ring magazine for infringing on their historic rights dating back to the 1920’s to present championship belts in all weight classifications.

1922

Upon graduating from UVM in 1922, he joined Mr.

1925

In 1925 the name of the agency was changed to Hickok & Boardman.

1931

Hickok in 1931, I. Munn Boardman purchased the agency.

1945

Following Stephen Rae’s unexpected death on December 20, 1945, (the day before his 65th birthday) his sons, Ray and Alan took over operation of the company.

1949

On June 16, 1949, the new belt was presented to Jake LaMotta, who won a brutal fight against Frenchman Marcel Cerdan.

1950

The first Hickok Belt™ was awarded to Phil Rizzuto at the Rochester Press-Radio Club charity banquet in 1950.

1968

In 1968, I. Munn Boardman Sr. sold his business to his three sons, Munn, Jr., Bob, and Dave.

1971

In 1971, the company built our present headquarters office at 346 Shelburne Road and then began expanding throughout the state.

1979

When he died, Wild Bill was holding a pair of aces and eights, that series of cards became known to poker players all around the world as the “Dead Man’s Hand.” In 1979, Wild Bill Hickok was inducted as a charter member into the World Series of Poker’s Hall of Fame.

1994

In 1994, Hickok & Boardman, Inc. was purchased by Scott Boardman, Mike Boardman, Munn Boardman, Paul Plunkett, and Carla Boardman Smalling.

2000

On April 3, 2000, Denis, Ricker & Brown became affiliated with Hickok & Boardman and the Hickok & Boardman Insurance Group was born.

2011

On October 16th 2011, past Hickok winners will gather with some of today’s top stars at a banquet at St John Fisher College in Rochester, New York, to celebrate past winners.

2012

And begin the countdown to October 2012, when the first Hickok Belt™ winner in 36 years will be named.
