We are seeking a seeking a Buyer with horticulture knowledge and experience. This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to bring their horticulture expertise to Hicks Nurseries!
Objective: Develop programs, source material, and buy items in assigned categories to maximize sales and profitability; analyze results.
Key Responsibilities:
* Identify, create, and source a mix of products in line with the company's position in the marketplace.
* Keep abreast of trends to best select product and programs. Identify vendors and products that communicate the look, feel, and value the company is seeking to achieve.
* Manage Open to Buy. Develop and monitor financial plans for merchandise mix, sales, and gross margin.
* Purchase merchandise. Plan merchandise promotions and sales. Plan sales goals, manage tie in sales and front-end item execution.
* Research and source new products. Plan and implement a schedule to visit other retail locations and industry events to gather information and ideas on trends, products, pricing, and vendors.
* Work with the Inventory team to resolve issues and problems discovered as shipments arrive.
* Develop and maintain a cross-functional partnership with Retail, Commercial Sales, Landscapes, and marketing to gain understanding of customer needs and communicate effectively. Support and partner with retail, commercial sales, and landscapes on sales, promotions, fulfilling inventory needs, and addressing inventory issues.
* Participate in industry events, tours, buying trips, and/or other professional development courses as directed and required. Understand competition in stores and online. Complete regular competitive shopping trips to assess pricing, category, and vendor opportunities.
* Provide customer service.
* Participate in sales and product knowledge training.
* 5-10 years of experience in managing a retail buying program.
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
* A demonstrated knowledge of horticulture industry.
* Computer literate, including Microsoft Office products.
* Ability to learn computer systems that are new to you.
* Effective and articulate fluency in English, written and oral, including face-to-face, on the phone, in formal letters, texting, and via email.
* Strong analytical and math skills.
* Able to work effectively and efficiently independently.
* Possess critical thinking and troubleshooting abilities.
* Able to maintain cooperative professional relationships with customers, peers, managers, vendors, and the community in general, while projecting a professional image through in-person, electronic, and telephone interactions.
* Able to multi-task and prioritize projects/activities in a fast-paced atmosphere.

Essential Functions
Efficiently and accurately receive and care for merchandise, primarily plant material. Assist loading customer vehicles as directed. Assist in the maintenance of plant material, including plant care and merchandising.

Participate in the pulling of material for pick-up and delivery.

Our Wilton, NY distribution center is looking for Warehouse Specialists to add to our team as part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing product fulfillment services to our Ace Retailers and their communities. In this role, you will work as a part of a Values-Driven Culture team to service Ace Retailers by warehousing Ace merchandise and fulfilling orders, including responsibilities in Receiving, Stocking, Order Filling, and Shipping:

**The Job** Our company is looking for a Business Development Manager (BDM) in the Northeast. In this position, you will be responsible for finding and signing new high-value customers for Emery Jensen across our key customer channels: Pro Lumber, Pro Paint and Hardware Stores/Home Centers. This position identifies prospects, develops a pipeline, determines the needs of specific prospects and shares the Emery Jensen value proposition to meet those needs.
The Business Development Manager is an ambassador for Emery Jensen, developing relationships with industry organizations, vendor partners, and prospective customers. This position will also work closely with the Emery Jensen sales team, helping new customers transition to their Territory Managers during the early months after signing customers.
**What you will do...**
The BDM will have responsibilities for the account throughout the full 12 month sales cycle and will need to communicate effectively with the local Territory Manager to insure the growth of the account to its full potential over this period. The focus of the BDM will be on full-conversion opportunities in which Emery-Jensen will become the primary distributor of hardware, paint and/or fastener products to the prospective retailer.
+ Increase top-line sales for Emery-Jensen Distribution but will also be required to target prospective customers and develop a sales approach with company profitability in mind as well. Understanding the return on investment, customer life time value and the basic fundamentals of Emery-Jensen's financial model will be critical in successfully targeting and signing new business
+ Demonstrate a basic understanding of the 'levers' that create a profitable customer relationship and develop sales approach around optimizing these 'levers'.
+ Actively research, pursue and open prospective customers within defined sales channels by clearly articulating and executing on the Emery-Jensen value proposition.
+ Maintain a weekly prospect pipeline with measurable results.

+ Pre-Call: Decision Maker, Business focus, competition, what needs to be accomplished

Hicks Nurseries is a $40 million revenue, single-location retail, and wholesale garden center in Westbury, NY. We are the largest garden center on Long Island! We are seeking a Team Leader for our beautiful greenhouse. Objective Lead, supervise, and participate with a team to effectively and efficiently sell product to customers, merchandise inventory, and ensure a positive customer shopping experience.
Key Responsibilities:
* Be an active participant in team leadership and supervision.
* In the absence of the manager, field and handle area personnel scheduling and other issues as they arise, working with the Manager on Duty as required.
* Train new employees.
* Interact with relevant buyer(s) as necessary to communicate regarding all aspects of the area(s) they are supervising.
* Work with the Manager and relevant buyer(s) on merchandise layouts and seasonal set-up plans.
* Sell merchandise. Suggest solutions that will best solve a customer's problem/need. Suggest additional items that complement their purchase (tie-in sales)
* Maintain merchandise and displays. Clean all damaged or fading leaves and flowers. Water and care for live material as required. Price merchandise according to documented standards, including printing labels and tags.
* Conduct plant maintenance in the retail greenhouses. Remove all unsaleable plants and put in proper area to be processed. Isolate any plants that have insect or disease problems and notify the Manager, the relevant buyer, or the manager on duty immediately.
* Restock and reset merchandise displays. Safely operate equipment and vehicles such as 4-wheel electric cart stock chasers.
* Assist with seasonal set-ups.
* Participate in sales and product knowledge training.
* Provide customer service.
* Strong knowledge of annuals/tropicals/houseplants
* Horticultural knowledge/affinity for gardening
* High school degree or equivalent
* 2 years of experience in a retail garden center greenhouse or similar
* Computer literate, including Microsoft Office products
* Ability to learn computer systems that are new to you
* Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, in person and on the telephone
Work Requirements
* Near-constant physical activity required, including standing, walking, reaching, bending, stooping, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, and grasping.
* Must be able to lift 25 lbs. consistently and 50 lbs. occasionally.
* Must be able to push/pull wheeled carts of 400 lbs. consistently.
* Fine motor skills requirements include peeling off labels from a strip of labels, keyboarding, using a computer mouse and writing.
* Ability to safely operate equipment and vehicles such as 4-wheel electric cart stock chasers.
