When he opened an insurance agency in 1948, he wanted to serve his small neighborhood in Fort Worth, Texas.
Paul C. Higginbotham founded his namesake agency in 1948 after returning from military service in World War II. It started as a small personal insurance brokerage firm in Paul’s Riverside neighborhood of Fort Worth, Texas.
Paul’s nephew, Bill Stroud, purchased the agency in 1962 from his aunt who inherited it when Paul died.
In 1986, Bill hired Rusty Reid from American General Fire and Casualty Company to broker commercial insurance at Higginbotham.
When Rusty Reid became CEO in 1989, he planted the seeds that would take Higginbotham’s service national.
Many of the Higginbotham businesses of today (1990) throughout central and west Texas are branches of the parent company headquartered in Comanche, Texas.
Higginbotham’s first geographic expansion occurred in 1998 with the opening of a second office in Dallas and was followed by several others in North and Central Texas.
In 2003 she was chosen by Harvard University to be a Walter Channing Cabot Fellow in recognition of her achievements in the field of history.
Then in 2007, the firm initiated an aggressive statewide growth strategy, merging with likeminded independent agencies that support its business model.
She is the co-author with the late John Hope Franklin of this book’s ninth edition, which came out in 2010.
In 2010, Higginbotham was inducted into the American Philosophical Society for promoting useful knowledge.
