Position: Head Baseball Coach

Job Description:
Garfield Heights City Schools is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Middle School Head Baseball Coach to lead the middle school baseball program. The Head Coach will be responsible for developing fundamental skills, promoting teamwork and sportsmanship, and creating a positive and supportive athletic experience for student-athletes. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong baseball knowledge, experience working with middle school-aged athletes, and a commitment to upholding district and OHSAA regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Athlete Development: Provide mentorship, instruction, and guidance to student-athletes while fostering discipline, respect, teamwork, and personal development.
Program Management: Plan, organize, and implement a middle school baseball program focused on fundamental skill-building, player improvement, and preparation for highschool-level competition.
Compliance & Eligibility: Ensure athletes meet all academic, behavioral, and eligibility requirements in accordance with OHSAA and Garfield Heights City Schools policies.
Practice & Game Preparation: Develop structured practice plans, teach core baseball techniques, create game strategies, and guide players through in-game situations.
Safety & Conduct: Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment during practices, games, team events, and travel.
Team Operations: Coordinate scheduling needs, equipment management, team communication, and game-day logistics.
Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the highschool baseball staff and athletic department to support the long-term progression of athletes within the baseball program.
Community & Family Engagement: Build positive relationships with families, school staff, and the community to encourage participation and support for the baseball program.
Professional Growth: Stay current on coaching methods, OHSAA regulations, and best practices in youth athletic development.
Other Duties: Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Athletic Director or school administration.
Qualifications:
Valid Pupil Activity Permit with the Ohio Department of Education
Satisfactory BCI/FBI background checks
Prior coaching or playing experience preferred (experience with middle school athletes strongly encouraged)
Strong understanding of baseball fundamentals, strategies, and youth athlete development
Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with students, families, and staff
Demonstrated commitment to sportsmanship, academic support, and student well-being
