Position Overview:


The role of a Teacher at ChiTech is to provide an engaging, rigorous and innovative academic learning experience for students. The ChiTech teacher develops lessons for students through the combined use of traditional best practices, digital resources, and project-based learning. Ultimately, the goal of the ChiTech Teacher is to connect new knowledge and skills to real-world applications.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Build a strong trusting relationships with all students throughout the ChiTech Community. Demonstrate a sensitivity to and respect for a diverse student and teacher population (ethnicity, gender, culture, "ability," etc.). Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum delivery and project design. Creatively use available instructional resources (Open Source, Research Based, Digital Programs) to engage students. Willingness to receive coaching through a dedicated feedback cycle. Implement restorative practices within the classroom, and larger school environment. Participate in professional development provided both in, and beyond the school walls. Differentiate instruction to meet varied student needs. Communicate with students, parents/guardians on a regular basis about progress toward goals. Demonstrate passion for and commitment to your personal educational mission, and the mission and success of ChiTech. Possess a solution focused mindset.

The Opportunity:

Rarely is it a textbook that helps someone fall in love with science nor is it a textbook that helps build an understanding of the world we live in. This is why, as a Science Teacher at Mastery, you will lead your students in investigations, experiments, and explorations of science and scientific concepts. From the moment they enter our buildings, our young scientists engage with the hands-on FOSS curriculum to fan the flames of their curiosity.

Our Kindergarteners through 8th Graders learn with FOSS so that, from 9th through 12th Grade, they are well-equipped for advanced classes. From 9th through 12th Grade Mastery's students study Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics (including options for AP Biology, AP Chemistry, and AP Physics). Mastery's Central Office has developed lesson plans, benchmark assessments, and curricular guides for you to tailor and implement to meet the needs of your students.

Teaching science at Mastery you will set high expectations and provide high support so that all of your students are able to succeed. You will work alongside our Specialized Services and School Culture teams to ensure your students receive the help they need to thrive.

At Mastery we value Continuous Improvement and want you to learn and grow in your craft. We utilize a team of Assistant Principals, central-office coaches, and school-based content teams to provide every teacher coaching and feedback. We have professional development or peer collaboration time built into our calendar every Wednesday (when students are dismissed early). You will receive more than 250 hours of professional development annually and have a professional development allowance to use to further your growth.

Position Overview

Maya Angelou Public Charter School (MAPCS) is seeking a Science Teacher. Our teachers often work in classrooms with special education teachers in order to serve special education students in an inclusive setting. Content teachers are expected to collaborate with special education teachers. Some students may have identified special education needs. Other students may require academic remediation and need creative and careful instruction to accelerate their learning.

Teachers at MAPCS are expected to support the school-wide goals of emphasizing literacy and numeracy, helping students develop their critical thinking abilities, driving all students toward mastery and understanding, and helping students find their strengths and talents to use them to address weaknesses and overcome fears. There is an emphasis upon collecting and utilizing a broad range of data to drive instruction, upon weaving social justice themes into instructional content and assessment, and collaborative team teaching to meet the needs of all of our students. Students are engulfed in a blended learning program in which the traditional and digital methods of instruction are combined based upon the individual needs of students. In addition, MAPCS embraces a competency-based instructional program where students develop key skills and competencies to prepare them for postsecondary and career success.

Responsibilities

  • Plan backward to align all lessons, activities, and assessments
  • Design in-person instruction that is enriched (developing higher-order thinking skills) and personalized (reflecting learning levels and interests of individual students)
  • Design assessments that accurately assess student progress and/or incorporate digital assessments
  • Create physical classroom environments conducive to collaborative and individual learning
  • Identify and address individual students’ social, emotional, and behavioral learning needs and barriers
  • Monitor and analyze student assessment data to inform personalized, enriched instruction by teacher, follow-up tutoring by tutor(s), and changes in digital instruction
  • Communicate with students and keep them informed of their progress
  • Maintain regular communication with families
