Highlands Medical Center company history timeline

1953

The red-brick structure currently referred to as the East Wing was built in 1953 to serve as a nurses’ residence.

1963

The Central Wing was added in 1963, as services expanded, and included additional inpatient rooms as well as a new surgical suite and new Emergency Room.

1965

HCA Florida Highlands Hospital has molded and changed since its creation in 1965 and will continue to concentrate on growing services and adding new technologies to better serve its patients.

1985

On September 7, 1985 , Highlands Hospital began as a community owned not for profit institution and a member of the Forbes Health System.

2005

Several million dollars worth of upgrades in technology and state of the art equipment as well as accolades from some of the country’s most prestigious organizations set Highlands Regional apart from its competitors in 2005.

2017

When completed in 2017, the project will bring Highland Hospital into compliance with the State of California’s strict seismic safety laws.
